Just out of interest...

Kadypants, 3 March, 2012 at 19:43 Posted on Planning 0 57

How long is there between the day you got engaged and the day you're getting married?

My H2B wants to get married in just less than a year, and if i'm honest that prospect freaks me out slightly, I would have no idea how to fit all the planning in within that time. (I should say i'm not the most organised of people and want to be sure we check out all our options before we make decisions on things!) So was just wondering how long everyone else has allowed/needed.

We got engaged in feb and are getting married in September so 7 and a half months! We were surprised with the amount of venues we liked that had saturdays in september free, although we are having a civil ceremony so everythings being done in the same hotel it might have been more difficult if we had to coordinate a church too.

Theres loads to do but personally i love it because ive been able to get everything organised and start on invites etc right away and have a packed few months or organising rather than sitting around but i can see how other people might find it a bit too stressful...

Got engaged in Feb 2010 and married in Sept 2012 but we didn't set our date until August 2011 and that's when I started the planning. For me 12 months is definitely the perfect length of time and wouldn't have wanted it any less or any more!

We got engaged in Sept 2011 and are getting married this July so around 9 months. I didn't want a long engagement and the less time you have the less time for faffing there is! You'll get into gear if you need to!

Same as this! Engaged Septemeber 11th and getting married July 21st.

We were both super excited to set the date, and last year, this July seemed AGES away, but it's flown by really fast. If I wasn't so organised I would be panicked.

Aw that's so cool! I think it's a lovely amount of time but yes you are so right in that time is FLYING! After Christmas everyone kept saying "Oh it'll fly in now" which I hated but actually...it's true!!

We got engaged on christmas day 2009 and will be getting married this June, so 2.5 years. However we saved for 18 months before we booked anything. We only set our date at the end of June last year for end of June this year, so only 12 months of planning. Any longer and I think I'd be going mad!

Engaged November 2011 and wedding is in May 2012 so 7 months and I am so much happier now it is done sooner rather than later. It was originally booked for August 2013 but I changed it in january! So from booking to the actual day was less than 4 months!

Ooh so a wide variety! And its nice to hear that lots of people have managed to arrange their perfect day in a relatively short amount of time. I dont want to 'drag it out' as such as I know other things will get in the way and take priority. Thanks alot everyone, I think you've helped me to make a decision. Yay!

We got engaged this January and are getting married next March. I wanted it to be as soon as possible but allowing enough time to save money for things once deposits were paid Smiley smile

We got engaged Christmas day 2009, and are getting married 30th March 2013. So 4 years, 3 months?

But when we got engaged I'd had one child, been on maternity leave, started my own business and was pregnant with my 2nd so about to take maternity again. I was fully aware a wedding was out of our grasps for years.

In october there we made a few thousand on a car sale and set a date. So 1 year 5 months of planning? And thats a change of date and venue thrown in lol. There is no rule book. Don't worry about what it "should" be, do what you can reasonably and thats all you can dox

We got engaged April 2011 and we are getting married at the end of August this year. However, I was 6 weeks pregnant when we got engaged and we wanted to wait about 6 months after the baby. We looked at a few venues when I was pregnant but didn't look seriously until January this year so technically only 7 months.

Engaged January 2011, wedding will be October 2013 so 2 years 9 months, we couldn't really start saving until this January for various reasons though hence the need for us to wait a bit...... the long wait is definitely going to drive me crazy though! Every couple of weeks i crunch the numbers again just in case we can suddenly manage to bring it forward to this year, we never can though!

We never technically got engaged, we just both sort of agreed to get married.

Kept changing dates, and going from big wedding to small wedding. August last year H phoned me and said "right, i've booked our wedding for 2 months time..."

We got engaged in November and we're getting married in June so 7mths but didn't start planning untill January and didn't even book anything untill about a month ago. I think what I'm trying to say is 12mths is plenty of time to organise, for us actual planning has taken 2mths max and now I feel like I'm sat twiddling my thumb till June ☹️ with very little to do for wedding x

TOO LONG! We got engaged December 2010 and getting married April 2013. We originally intended July 2012, but for various logistical reasons we delayed it by 9 months, as we had already 'started' planning we then had to take an enforced break once we decided to delay last April. This seemed to make it all seem much longer - if we had just got engaged then left it a year or so to set the date, I think it would have seemed more bearable. It is fun planning, but we have done most things now I think and still got just over a year to go!

Got engaged end of Oct 2010, married 10th Sept 2011 - just over 10 months, though we didn't really start properly planning until Feb 2011. It's totally doable in under a year.

Engaged Jan this year, getting married Sept 2013.

My OH always wanted to be married within a year, but he's ok with the idea of it being 18 months. It was more a case that he didn't want to be just engaged, he wanted us to be engaged to be married, and actually have a plan. It also means we're booking with enough notice to get our dream venues, which is good, but I am worried that I'll end up doing all the big stuff now and have nothing to do for a while!
