Just starting diet.. HELP!

FelicityChaplin, 18 January, 2010 at 21:35 Posted on Planning 0 4

OK, so I'm a big girl (20 stone and a size 22/24.☹️) And hoping to lose a whopping 70lbs in the next 7 months prior to my wedding.

I work full time, but as I'm the only one working at the moment nearly all my money is going on rent and wedding stuff so there is no chance I'll be able to get to a gym this side of March/April. But in the meantime I want to make a really good start! I do enjoy healthy foods like salads, fruit and veg so I'm sure I'll be OK with the food part of it. (Despite my size I'm really good at eating healthy when I put my mind to it. I don't snack alot, and never have food cravings.)

I'm not very healthy, but do about 20 minutes of power walking everyday when I'm on my way to/from work. Anyone got anymore ideas on what I can do?

Thanks!!!! xxx

I guess the most important thing you can do is recognise where you go wrong...for me its snacking and not stopping!! I'll demolish a pack of biccies...well I used to anyway I should say.

I went up to 14 stone after I had my little boy and the best thing I did for myself was to set a daily goal....ie to not eat crap, or to do some form of exercise. I'm now back down to 10 stone and 1 stone off my goal weight

taking it one day at a time makes it easier to focus and before you know it you'll have had 7 good days!

I also felt that telling someone what I was doing was great motivation as they helped to encourage me and keep me on track.

sorry for short post....am off to bed but would be more than happy to share some more tips with you tomorrow!

I'm losing weight ready for our big day (3.5 stone in total, already lost 2 stone). Using weightwatchers has worked for me, as it gives me a very clear structure. As this costs money, if you know someone who is doing it you could photocopy the food points and some recipes from them, so you don't have to pay. Or, I think there are some vouchers online for free registration and free first meeting - you could go for free and pick up the starter pack, and then not go again Smiley smile

It sounds like you have the right motivation and mindset - good luck!

I totally agree slimming world is a god send!!!

I tried cutting back before and couldn't do it, so never lost anything. But then started slimming world and was amazed by the portions you can have, providing it's the right thing. I LOVE the free chips! I always cover mine with Garlic and black pepper. I Lost 9 and a half lbs the first time round then stopped it for months. But I'm back on track now.

Motiviation - or lack of it - is my biggest down fall, but I've found sharing with the girls on here has been a big help!!

I'm pretty poo at motivation but am currently doing WeightWatchers at home. How confusing is their website might I add!

My aim is to lose 3 stone and keep it off, which I find the hardest. Years ago I lost 1 1/2 stone on WW, but put it all back on when I came to uni - I thought that being a penniless student with no spare-time would keep me slim! I was wrong.

There is no point going on a really strict diet which is difficult to stick to. Just up your exercise, cut out junk and eat more lean protein, fresh veg, fruit and foods that are nutritionally good and keep you fuller for longer - brown rice, porridge etc.

Another thing which is obvious, but try not to eat too much "diet," or "low-fat" labelled foods, because often these have bumped up levels of salt and sugar so that they taste better!

    Good luck!
