Just wanted to say hi!

AlmostMrsSmith, 12 June, 2013 at 23:39 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi Everyone!

I've just joined, getting married in October after a 5 month engagement. Feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to plan everything in a short time especially as I live in a different city to my fiancé! Anyone else in a similar situation?

    Hello!

I am getting married one month today after an 8 month engagement. I don't live in a different city to H2B but we live in London and are from the Midlands so have had to plan a wedding up there from down here. Its been busy and I felt just like you at the start. It will all come together though. Congratulations and good luck with everything! x

Hello and welcome. I planned mine in 7 months and it was great. I'm not the most patient of people so couldn't have gone any longer!

PaintedHales - I live in Birmingham and H2B lives in Teddington, and the wedding's in Warwickshire! It's going ok so far but there's just no time for us both to go visit photographers etc.

I've got a LOT done in 5 weeks, but I'm just feeling really overwhelmed and on my own. When I'm with H2B it's just stressful as we are both strong minded (and over budget!)

I thought I'd really enjoy planning a wedding but I'm not finding it fun! Odd bits are but it's mostly stressful! Is that normal..?

    Hi, welcome.

I live in Hertfordshire and I'm getting married in my home town, Nottingham. It is proving quite difficult and costly because of the petrol to get back and forth sorting everything out. We got engaged on 12th July last year and we are getting married on 14th August this year. Luckily we have just bought a house together as he did live in a different place to me but he is being there and being amazing at picking up the pieces and mopping up my tears!

Fellow Brummie! Alright Bab! Smiley smile I think its perefctly normal. . I have to admit that I haven't enjoyed wedding planning at all, I marvel at people who say its so much fun!. As the fella works long hours and he can't go home as often as I can - I have done almost everything on my own and with my Mom. I have spent every other weekend at my parents since christmas, most of those without him. He only saw the church for the first time 2 weeks ago. I have found it stressful as I have had to make a lot of the decisions and then report back to him as to how much money I have spent and what I have decided and then I feel guilty that he is not involved. Sometimes I feel a bit resentful that I have had to do it without him too and I have felt alone at times.

However, now things are coming together and almost everything is sorted, I am starting to (almost) relax and (almost) enjoy it. Its not fun, its hard work but it will all be worth it. xx

With photographers you dont need to visit until you have narrowed them right down. You can both view the photographers work on their websites but make sure that you ask to see at least 1 or 2 whole weddings - you can go by the photos on their site for a starter but then ask to see whole weddings.

Where in warwickshire is the venue

PaintedHales - I'm really grateful we're both good at communication, we FaceTime every other evening and I see him most weekends so it could be a lot worse! It's tricky getting the balance right with everything. The planning is consciously joint between me and H2B, so I want to show and talk through things with him first. That's fine except I can't spend time nattering to my sister in law and friends about stuff I haven't spoken to H2B about yet in case he gets upset and there are some aspects we want to keep a surprise. Plus when we do meet up I don't want to spend the entire two days I get with him taking about weddings!

Photography I think we have semi sorted - we've got two possibles and we've found time to squeeze a meeting and complimentary engagement shoot in!

Yay another Birmingham bride. I live in Birmingham too, although I'm not from there. There was nothing moving my Husband out of there ?

Have a lot of emails back and forth with them and maybe have a chat to them on the phone? Also, I sometimes go to peoples houses for meetings because they are so busy. Is this a possibility for you Guys so you don't have to be rushing around after work?

ETA just read your update on the Photographer, that is fab that you both managed to find time to meet one and get yourself an engagement shoot. Will give you both time together and be able to see how you feel in front of the camera.

JoJo85 I'm getting my dress made by The Couture Company, I've wanted my wedding dress from Jo ever since I saw her dresses on Rock n Roll Bride blog last year! My dress is fairly traditional and simple, but quite fitted. I went to 3 bridal shops to try dresses on and they looked at me in horror when I said I had 5 months until my wedding! They all said it wasn't enough time to get a dress! I couldn't find anything I liked and had a complete panic until I met Jo and she created exactly what was in my head. Phew!

I felt a bit lost going dress shopping as I didn't really know designers or anything and that was what a lot of the bridal shops asked. If I can just find shoes I'll be happy!

Hi DaffodilWaves! Thanks for the advice. I'm the other way round, can't wait to move out of Birmingham and go to London! Now I work in the centre of Birmingham it has grown on me though...
