Keeping the ends of ribbon tidy

Allgold78, 18 January, 2011 at 13:49 Posted on Planning 0 12

Oh help, I wish I was creative!! I'm trying to do some invites and some other bits of stationery to match, like the front to go on our postbox. I need to cut some ribbon and I know the ends are going to be seen. How do I stop them fraying??

You either need to cut the ends diagonally into points or cut a "V" shape out of the end. This should help but the only absolute fail safe i know of is to melt or burn the ends.

If you've got lots to do you could get some Fray Stoppa (or equivalent) from a sewing shop or eBay. Use a little paintbrush to dab some on the ends of the ribbon and it will create a sealed edge.

Would clear nail varnish not do pretty much the same job?

Fray check is great stuff, will stop the ribbon fraying and you'll be surprised how often it comes in handy for other things. A little bottle will last forever and it's only about £3.00
