Kids photos on Facebook

barongreenback, 6 March, 2009 at 14:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 61

Why on earth would you post a photo that has your child with a pair of all too realistic looking feather wings strapped to its back? Bleugh. Looks like a 'professional' job too.

    Why wouldn't you?

It may not be my taste (or yours obviously) but why is it so bad?

why is it different to that pic of you on your facebook wearing a donkey outfit whilst being fisted by a man wearing a gorilla costume? ?

Because it really does seem odd to want to dress your child up as an angel/cherub that looks akin to Loki and Bartleby from Dogma just before they get their wings shot off.

Anyway, my question was why would you, not the other way round.

No child of mine is having anything that looks like it came from a dirty pigeon strapped to it ?

Nick - it's my delicate, ladylike hands that are so appealing.

A friend of mine did this. While she was still in hospital with her newborn a pro photographer came round, took some cute photos, adulterated them in photoshop with wings (fairy, butterfly etc), and my friend posted them on facebook, understandably proud of her new daughter. Not something I would ever do (far to twee, even for me), but it made her happy.

There appears to be a bit of a trend for this at the moment, but I usually see it with fairy wings. I think a few people on BT have had it done.

It's not my cup of char, it's bad enough that Wizzy runs around the house with pink fairy wings on screaming at the top of her lungs "I'm a fairy, look mummy, I'm a fairy". More like a fecking baby elephant ?

I guess you would, because you were proud or just wanted to show the picture to friends/family.

Surely that is why anybody posts any picture on facebook?

But, I have never posted a picture like that, so can't say for sure!

I guess it's no different to me posting a photo of my dog dressed in his builder's outfit complete with yellow hard hat, high vis jacket and tool belt ... ?

Obviously I'm not going to post the photo but this was a little boy with wings very obviously strapped to him, not photoshopped. The wings looked like they were real feathers. The whole effect was rather creepy as opposed to a little girl dressing up as a fairy (or little boy, I won't be sexist about these things ?)

I post pictures of my little girl because I'm proud of her. But I have pictures of her like she is - not with grotesque fake wings protruding out of her body!

If someone asked me to fairyfy their child after I had done them a photoshoot I wouldn't say no, but I would be physically working on keeping my eyebrows in their proper locations. That said I have photo's of my eldest with a dog bone in her chops (whilst also airbrushed to hell and back as it was easier than finding a flannel ?) and in various other interesting garb, but she has done that to herself (mostly...) so I figure fair game ?.

If I post pictures, they are bog standard pictures too, but it doesn't mean everyone has to.

But I gather BGB was disliking the particular subject matter rather than just disliking the picture in general.

Erm, you gather wrong. Otherwise I would have ranted about all kids photos on facebooks, not this creepy winged child beast.

I agree, that is grotesque (the angel wings, not Woody - he's cuuuute!)

For me, if a parent wants to be a twee twat, then that's up to them. But, why chose an angel, to me, it's creepy. My logic is this; in order to be an angel, you have to be dead. Why do you want to emulate your child as a dead spirit/being/fictitious character*? It really creeps me out.

*delete as appropriate to your beliefs.

Woody very very cute. Angel-winged child def not, never mind the Dogma reference, I'd be incredibly creeped out especially after watching red riding last night.

And what is the poor kid going to think in 10 years or so when mummy or daddy pulls out the photo album for boyfriends/girlfriends?

    Isn't that what I said?

You didn't like that particular picture - rather than all pictures of kids.

I did misunderstand your first post and then realised what you meant.

I love Woody's outfit! I need one for The Moog. I could take him on-site with me! (if I ever find another job!)

For now I shall wheel out his bee costume pic, it has wings - does it make me as bad as the person mentioned in the original post?
