Kinesiology

LittleStar, 25 November, 2008 at 22:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

Anyone ever tried it? I've had 2 sessions now and it's, er... weird.

He tested a muscle in my leg and got a weak response. "You need to drink more water" he says. I take a sip, hold it in my mouth, repeat the muscle test. Strong result. WTF?!

He's a personal friend, so I know he's not misleading me. But I do struggle to get my head around it.

I have to keep a food diary for the next 2 weeks, then we're going to do some food testing. I was worried that he'd moan about the crap I eat, but he said it's up to me what I eat, he'll just tell me what effect it'll have.

He eats cake, chocolate and drinks Jack & Coke, but he knows he'll feel rubbish the next day.

I had it done years ago because it was obvious I was allergic to stuff and there was a big waiting list to see the allergist at the hospital so my doctor recommended it. They didn't ask for a food diary because they said they didn't want to be influenced - they just worked through the foods and came up with a big list of stuff I should avoid.

Some of it was weird like I could eat tomato if it was cooked but not raw, I was severely allergic to apples and malic acid and had to avoid them (and I used to eat alot of apples/drink cider) and I should eat dried figs and prunes and bananas every day because I was potassium deficient. Then he told me to avoid all animal fats, red meat, salmon, nuts and dairy products and margarine because I was at high risk of gallstones - I was 19 at the time and ignored him on this one. Then when I was 25 the gallstones came! Now I know this is kind of logical - fatty diet can lead to gallstone problems but I didn't have a fatty diet really and I wasn't a big dairy product or nut fan so now I think this was quite interesting. Oh and I lost 3 stone by avoiding the majority of the foods on this list.

At first I did think it was a bit hokey but it worked for me - it's just a bit strange!

Isn't one type something to do with movement and another type absolute quackery? I've seen it dismissed in a couple of nutrition books I've read recently. From the posts on this thread it sounds like a common sense approach to a balanced diet is more appropriate - Mrs T, I'm not surprised you lost 3 stone by cutting out fatty foods, red meat and dairy ?

I didn't though - that's the point. I didn't really eat them in the first place

So what did you cut out? Cider and apples would account for a lot of calories in themselves but was there anything else specifically?

Sorry, but I think it's absolutely wonderful and have done for many years!

All 3 of my children have had it, and I prefer it to conventional doctors for minor illnesses. A kinesiologist can for example treat a virus, wherease the doc will just fob you off. Just because it's a virus doesn't mean you don't feel absolutely awful!

My most successful diagnosis was my eldest son who is now 19. When he was 6 or 7 he started getting asthma. Took him to the doctor who did indeed diagnose asthma and gave him inhalers. That was it. It's not in my nature to just accept things I'm afraid, I want to know why! So took him to the kinesiologist. He said he was allergic to egg white. Nice and simple - no egg white, no asthma. He's been fine ever since and has reintroduced egg white back into his diet. It was implied by the doctor that I was a bad mother for not taking my son to the asthma clinic, but he didn't need it!

We've found it to be fantastic over the years, parents too. I'm waiting for my partner to go at the moment, but there aren't many suitable appointments and he's v busy at work. I don't think he's convinced as he's never had it, but he will be!
