Kitchen gadgetry

Arquard, 8 November, 2012 at 12:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

I have something of a liking for small kitchen appliances and paraphernalia and could merrily spend hours in the kitchen and cookware sections of department stores, stocking up. However, we only have a tiny kitchen and H is slowly losing his mind over my cluttering up the worktops with microwave, slow cooker, bread maker, sandwich toaster, rice cooker, etc. When I suggested recently that I would really like a Kitchenaid style mixer, he looked like he was about to cry.

Am I alone in having such a weakness for kitchen stuff?

Love kitchen stuff but I hate junk cluttering up the counters, it feels too messy and I like a big space when cooking/baking. I won't even have the toaster out, it lives in the cupboard.

No. I love it. I spent hours poring through the Lakeland catalogue the other day and am coveting gadgets that only have one use and a random one at that.

Although I have quite a big kitchen, I don't have a huge amount of surface space, but it is all taken up by gadgets. I have three types of coffee machine for goodness sake!

? That's impressive! I only have the one (plus cafetiere) but it's been relegated to the garage because (in H's words) I never use it.

My mum is trying to gift me her old Kenwood mixer (erm, not quite the KitchenAid I'd hoped for!) but space is limited in my new kitchen. She then said that I should mount the microwave on the wall, thus freeing up more surface space - the boy did look like he wanted to cry too at that point until I asked if he wanted cakes or not!

I'm not really sure how I ended up with so many! My parents had a Senseo machine whilst I was at uni and they bought me one when I moved to London after graduating. Then one Christmas my sister bought me a mahoosive one which brews real coffee and froths milk like this:

I had it out, but I only ever used it when people came round so I could make a big pot of coffee. Then it got relegated to the box room when I had my bread machine. A couple of Christmasses ago, my parents bought us a Dolce Gusto machine so now the Senseo is also in the box room!

This is another thing I want need. Hot cup water dispenser & filter! In fairness, the arthritis in my wrists is making it harder for me to safely lift the kettle. Or at least that's what I'll tell H.

CO I love your microwave! You are definitely not the only one, our kitchen has the stupidest tiny amount of worktop space but I'm now thinking of getting a coffee machine and I don't even drink coffee ?.

Hmm this thread is showing proof of my love of gadgets. I also have one of these and it's the same brand as this but I don't think it has a filter. It's brilliant for when you are just making one drink but because we have a lot of gadgets the kettle has been resigned to the cupboard but when you need more water than a cupful it's a pain although there is an adjustable amount you can have so you put it up to max. I suppose if you were cooking a big meal ie boiling steaming veg you would get it out.

You're not the only one - I may or may not have spent half an hour in Debenhams yesterday drooling over their many pretties.

As well as a KitchenAid Mixer I also very much want need a Magimix:

Oooh I have one of these... it was a wedding gift... not used it yet though.

We've just had to turn our kitchen into a galley kitchen and add four extra units to make room for all the crockery and other bits and bobs. The builders should have finished it off today, can't wait to go home and see ?

Ha - mine had no choice. We took SIL along and bless him, it was like I was marrying SIL and he was the spare part!

Well... in fairness he wouldn't let me get the Emma Bridgwater crockery with the hearts on ("too girly"), only the multicolour spot ones. And we did need kitchen stuff as we were making do with stuff left over from uni days.
