Lacing up 5 dresses - do I need hired help on the day?

rp304, 7 July, 2013 at 08:48 Posted on Planning 0 3

I'm having four bridesmaids with lace up backs to their dresses and my dress is too. Anyone who's been there done that, have any advice as to whether I should get some one in to do all the lacing, eg. I've seen this service advertised in bridal shops. My bridesmaids are two adults and two children, and their mums will be with them in the morning, but when the girls tried their dresses yesterday they asked me if I had someone coming to lace everyone up, so now I'm not sure if it needs a professional so be speak?

Ps we our ceremony is at 12 and we need to have left by 11.30 so the morning will be quiet tight between everyone's hair and makeup and the needs of the photographer.

Thanks Smiley smile

No you do not need any professional help and I have never seen any either. BIG BUT--- you do need to practice you definitely do not want to be doing it the first time on the day, even when you have practiced, still leave extra time than you think because the extra pressure of the day and all those people in the house and also all those lovely nails now done will mean that it now takes longer than you thought. Also the wider the lace the harder and slower it will be because as you go you have to concentrate in getting it to lay flat and not twisted. Also try and work out before how you want the extra leftover "tails" of the lace after your bow as so many times this ends up as a last min in or out debate

Yes, definitely practice and practice! One other tip is don't tie yours too tight. Our daughter's was and the day after, she had pains in her chest and sore ribs!

Also mention your concerns when you have your make up/hair trial. We spoke about this as it came up in conversation, and the MUA said that half the time she does it for brides, as she has seen it done lots of times so is happy to help. Then a pic is just taken with the mum doing a bit. With that many ppl make sure that both your BMs and maybe another adult are able to do it x
