No, I'm 5' 9" and he's 6' 1" and about four stone heavier than me. I don't need anywhere near as much as he does.

I used to or at the best a token amount less than him but that's why I put on so much weight (he's 6' 3" and I'm 5' 5"!!!). I purposely make sure I have much less on my plate now because I don't really need it and if it's not there then I wont eat it. I generally have the same amount of vegetables/salad on my plate though it's just the meat and carbs that I cut down on. It's paid off as well, the weight's coming off fairly easily even without exercising.

Yes we do but he always has seconds, snacks alot e.g. slices of bread as soon as he gets home from work and he eats rubbish at work. He his very fit though as he is a carpenter and goes to the gym alot.

I used to-or a slightly smaller amount ,at least when I was doing the cooking/serving up. These days, I am more clued up about portion control. It's tough sometimes because I love my grub, but realistically, at 5'2 I cannot put away the same as 6'3 H who has a physically demanding job and practises/teaches karate 2-3 times per week.

I do have the same size portion - I think I'm basically greedy but I do have a pretty good appetite. I do different types of meals too when I cook for us both rather than just for me (I'd have some couscous and veg, or a bit of pasta and veg, or an omlette, very little in the way of meat and spuds for example - where as for both we'll have chilli or lasagne or something else stodgy).

These are the reasons why I now weigh about three stone more than I did before we lived together ?

It's something I know I need to get in hand - he's 6'1" and I'm about 5'4" for a start off, I don't need to eat as much as him. Also I know my appetite is smaller when I eat less, it's purely habit.

Pretty much. He's 5'9" and I'm 5'7" and I'm fairly active. I don't like the idea of 1/3 2/3 thing, I wouldn't want to have a portion half the size of his. I am a bit hefty though.

I do tend to serve up similar portions of dinner, even though I know I don't need as many calories as a man. I think it comes from growing up with 5 brothers where there'd be a riot if one of us thought we were getting a smaller slice of cake at tea time! The only exception would be something like sausages where if there was an odd number I'd dish him up the odd one.

Having said that I'm only slightly overweight whereas he's probably a couple of stone over what he should be so I can only presume he snacks more than me at work, or I am subconciously giving myself smaller portions without realising. Maybe we should both be on girl portions!

Yes, its something I noticed recently after I remembered my mum and dad always ate different sizes. That said, i think we both serve relatively small portions, and I'll usually have more veg whilst he'll have extra carbs.

I doubt either of us eat our daily minimum of calories so its not something I've really worried about.

I have more than my husband and sometimes finish his off. He's a very fussy eater and whilst I make lots of slimming world recipes for me I try to give him them as well but he always sees the courgettes, peppers, tofu, quorn, etc, etc. Sometimes he won't even try new foods and says he doesn't like them. He still weighs a stone more than me though.

I love my food. hence why I'm going to slimming world?

At tea time, he tends to deal out equally where as I try and make mine smaller but lately I've eating what he eats (size wise) and have put a few pounds on but my appetite goes up and down depending on what's going on in my life at that time.

I really should reduce both our portions sizes as we're eating too much and I'm struggling to get him to lose a bit of weight again. (He lost a bit for the wedding last year as he had to fit into his kilt as i said we weren't going to get it resized) He's just short of 6 foot and around 21 stone (according to Wii Fit at christmas time) and I'm an inch shorter and just under half his weight.

We eat the same except when we have rice where he eats more (for some reason I can't eat much rice as it feels like it expands inside me).

In my defence I am still breastfeeding so eating like a pig. Also he snacks much more than I do.

My H does most of the cooking and will put the same size portion on our plates but 90% of the time he will finish his plate and I wont.

Like others, I eat like a man and feel hard done by if I get less. I am 6ft though. I practically am a man!

And he will often polish off mine/go back for seconds.

I am overweight and have a terrible attitude to food, my mum having belonged to the "clear your plate" school of feeding children and so it's quite difficult for me to stop when I just feel comfortably full, I am sure I still eat way too much.

My mum used to always give me much bigger portions than my sister - which was OK when we were children and I was much bigger eg 12 when she was 9 but when I was say 21 and she was 18 it really used to bug me,we were both adults and I didn't need more food than her! Even now if we are both back at our mum's for dinner, a rare occurrence these days admittedly, she'll give me more than her. And then go on about how fat I am!

If I am dishing up the food I try to give myself a bit less. I have to prevent my husband from giving me the same size portion as him if he's dishing it up - he is 6 foot 4 and slim, whereas I'm 5 foot 3 and could do with losing a bit of weight. I've been trying to cut down a bit on my portion size recently, and feel it is working a bit, as my trousers aren't so tight round the waist...

    I eat less - I'm barely 5ft 6 and he is 6ft 4 and broad shouldered.

I probably could eat what he does if I made an effort to stuff myself. I do like my food and I don't mind eating a lot/ when I'm already full although it's bad practice as that's how I put on weight <rocket science icon>

My nan will always be remembered for going on about being served a Man's portion in restaurants and regularly caused a fuss by asking the wait staff to make sure she got a "ladies serving". When she cooked she served everyone giant portions though!

It never occured to me to serve different amounts but then my parents are about the same size and although H is almost a foot taller than me he puts weight on really easily so a lot of the time watches what he eats and we have about the same.

I eat way more if food isn't plated before seving. I hate having an over full plate but I'm more than capable of eating a lot if I can help myself!

I kind of agree with you nan ? only because if you don't eat all your food ina restaurant people often comment but I think the sizes must be there to satisfy a large man as wella s a small woman, so its not surprising you often can't finish it.

We have the same sized portions and he is 2" taller than me. However, I had a rude bloody shock when I attended Slimming World this morning for the first time, so I will be back to eating rabbit food ?

My life would be so happy if fat + healthy <sigh>

Ah, no rabbit food needed with SW. I went from a size 14 to a size 8 on it, stuffing my face all the way ?

Also, I'm not entirely convinced on their scales... mine were half a stone less than theirs.

    Doughnut, I think I love you ❤️

I have given myself a year to lose the weight I need to - which actually feels quite liberating. This time next year I will be a size 12 ?? Given that the last time I was a size 12 was when I was about 14, this feels very... ummm... exciting and radical.

That's very impressive Doughnut - fancy sharing some favourite recipes?

anyway, sorry to thread crash. I am the weight of two small women ?

There are a lot of SW girls on the WL board which is great for WL support. I preferred green days and like pasta with asparagus, mushrooms, quark stirred in and cheese melted on top. Chilli made with veg Quorn mince, peppers, kidney and baked beans and a couple of tins of tomatoes. Freezes well if you use fresh Quorn not frozen. SW chips with egg and mushy peas. Quorn sausage or lamb grills with mash (made with milk - nice, honest!) and baked beans. Veggie curry with loads of root veg, chickpeas and lentils. Basically anything really filling ?

The only problem I found was that it didn't deal with the reason I got overweight in the first place, i.e. that of being a greedy cow and eating when I wasn't hungry. So when I stopped or went on hols I gained loads of weight back as I carried on chowing down heartily ?

Good luck! It is easy to stick to and really works, even if you don't believe it will cos you can eat so much!

We have similar sized portions. We are both overweight.

Actually this is one reason why I'm doing weightwatchers at the moment - I need to reeducate myself about what normal portions look like.
