Ladies with HUGE trains...

2013_Bride_, 29 May, 2013 at 20:20 Posted on Planning 0 17

Did you always feel happy with your train?

Were you ever nervous about it and the practicality of it?

Just how big was it?

So you got a big un have you, a quick bit of advice is do not try to reverse, if you need to go backwards you have to go the long way around. And you will quickly get the hang of the "swoosh"

I have a little bit of

    I certainly do!

I think it would be considered a 'Cathedral' train ?

Thanks for the link, will have a look now!

    edit: Would say it looks like this from the back, maybe a tad shorter;

That train length is due partly to my putting it out and the lens used, here is another of the same dress

I didn't have a train on my dress but had a very long trailing veil and didn't have many problems. When you're dancing, you have to pile it up around you and dance in one spot and ban everyone else from you surrounding area lol! This was mine from the back although not a brilliant photo of it It went on forever!:-

Mine is quite big, I've had a dress maker attach a button type thing (*don't know what it's called*) so it can be pinned up for the evening do and I can dance the night away without taking up the entire dance floor ?

Until then, people will have to walk around me and step on it at their peril! Though I'm a little concerned about sitting down for the meal?!

Trains are gorgeous; long or short. You can get a bustle put in and after the ceremony and the pictures have been taken, you can tuck in the train and you won't have to worry about keeping people miles away from you. Most good seamstresses would know how to put a bustle in. We do it as a standard for all our wedding dresses; free of charge.

    xx

    Lanny it is beautiful.

I find myself baffling, I question my train yet I admire lots of dresses that have just as long of a train as my own does!

My daughter had a massive one! I've always found the hook up/bustle thingys are usually inadequate. So.... I decided to sew two small, discreet ribbon hooks on each of the three layers of her train (spaced apart), and attach a long ribbon on the inside near the waist. When she'd had enough of swooshing and people standing on it.... I threaded the ribbon through the six hooks and tied it tightly. It worked a treat.

Mine looks like it was a similar length to Lannyb's. I quickly got the hang of the 'swoosh' movement for turning round! I admit I kept it bustled up quite a bit of the time, mainly because it was raining so people were hanging round the bar area most of the day, so I felt in everyone's way with my huge train! I loved my massive train though. I was worried about it so much before but it was gorgeous and I'm so glad I had it!

Freckles, relieved to hear you loved it on the day. What about it that you were worried about before the day?

I just looked to see if I could find a picture with the train down, I can't find one at the minute, annoying!

I was worried that the dress was too big for the venue (it was, but who cares?!) I was worried about how difficult it would be to go the toilet in a dress with a big train (bustle and go in face forward, no drama!) and I was worried that it was a very 'girly' dress for someone that's never out of jeans. It seemed a big jump for me, but I've had so many compliments about my dress and amazing train that I wouldn't think of changing it if given the chance.

I love my train and am not worried at all, will have it bustled most of the day apart from ceremony and some photos.

If you are nervous just see how you feel on the day, you can always bustle it ?

This was mine, not as big as some and I admit I did find it cumbersome!

Sorry - let me clarify I quoted you so we knew it was about your dress comment but my comment does not fit your text on its own without the pic. But it was meant as a joke that if rains everyone could dive under your train for cover
