Laser eye surgery

Has anyone had this done?

I am thinking about having this done, but I am really worried about the pain and being able to see what they are doing.

My BIL had it done recently, his eyes were quite red, sore and watery for a few days afterwards but I don't remember it being like that for very long, he's extremely happy with the results.

I had mine done on wednesday this week! I foolishy watched a video on youtube, but honestly can say the procedure was fine. They put anaesthetic drops in your eyes so you dont feel any pain, the eyelid retractors and suction cup device are a little uncomfortable but certainly not painful and not on for long. I couldn't 'see' much, they put a drape over your eye and you have to concentrate on the red light above your head. The laser was three bursts of 20 seconds each. They talk through it so you know what is happening.

After the procedure vision is a bit hazy but I could read car number plates already! On the journey home I kept my eyes closed as the car head lights dazzled me a bit and my lids felt heavy. My eyes were watery often described as 'chopping onions' but again not painful. Two hours post procedure it was more comfortable to open my eyes and felt better after a couple of applications of drops.

Check up next morning showed my vision to be better than 20/20. I do have bloodshot eyes but that will fade soon. It's great, I'm really pleased to be free of my glasses after 15 years.

H had it done a few years back and is really pleased with it so much so that he would have it done again if needed.

He is really squeamish about his eyes and can't bear anything near them so was worried he wouldn't be able to go through with it. He was fine (apart from behaving like a big baby) and though it was a bit uncomfortable for a few days he didn't find it painful.

We both had ours done 6 years ago, not painful just a little uncomfortable - no regrets at all and would def do again if needed

Cheers for the comments, seems like it isn't as bad as I thought! So can anyone recommend anyone near Milton Keynes?

I think about it periodically. I've worn glasses for nearly 30 years, since I was 2.

My prescription changes each year though so not sure I can have it done. I'm only -5.00 and can see with glasses or contacts which I've sort of decided is good enough.

I have worn glasses for 20 years and cannot get on with contact lenses at all, and we hopefully getting about £1500 soon and I would love to get this done as it would be nice for a change to wake up, and actually be able to see! lol

Might sound like a silly question but how long does it last, will it be like that forever or will I need to have some more done somewhere down the line?

I had mine done at Ultralase, it is a bit pricey than some of the others but does give lifetime guarantee in that if your eyes do regress then they will re do them free. Saying that my manager's brother had his done 20 years ago and still has perfect vision.

I had the the top of range treatment which is £1,995 per eye for all prescriptions. They have payment/credit offers too. Have a look at their website, they have a forum as well.
