Latest date to send Save the Date

missmandymoo, 27 October, 2013 at 09:40 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi,

I'm getting married early August next year and the day of the wedding is on a Thursday so will need to give people plenty of notice.

A friend of mine who is an illustrator is doing a caricature of H2B and I to be used on the Save the date as well as invites and all the stationary etc. She's half way from completing it but she's incredibly busy and I don't want to put any pressure on her but it is taking a while and I'm worried the longer I leave it the more guests won't be able to make the wedding.

I think I need to design a back-up save the date and set myself a cut-off date where if the caricatures aren't ready by, the backup will be used instead. So the question is for a 7th August wedding, when is the latest I should really send the Save the dates?

Thanks x

Hi, I get married the Thursday after you. I'd be tempted to send something else out. All of the other stationary can still match.

That's a good point! I've not even started collecting addresses! Yeah she said herself it needs to be done soon so she is aware of the time ticking.

Maybe you could consider telling your closest & dearest the date of your wedding and especially those who will have difficulty in taking time off work due to the nature of their work and those that need to book flights/hotel in advance.

I didn't bother with the STD cards as I told my friends/family face to face (they literally jot it down in their diary), emailed/messaged them and asked parents to let others know the date of our wedding. I think it is quite personal by announcing your wedding date to your close friends/family face to face Smiley smile

Our wedding party is on 16 August, and we are sending our Save the Date cards in with Christmas cards during December.

I would send them out soon or at least make sure people informally know the date now and send them by Christmas - August is an extremely busy time so you'll want to give people as long as possible. As ruby says, ask your friend when she'll be ready, tell her you're aiming to be ready by the last week of Nov and see what she says. In the mean time email/speak to/fb as many people so they know for info.

Thanks for all the response. The illustration was completed a couple of weeks ago and I've now finished the design. The artwork is currently with my printers so I'm hoping to get them back next week. Got every bodies addresses, stamps bought and envelopes written out ready to ship once the cards arrive back from the printers.
