Laundry - how much do you generate?

Barefoot, 26 November, 2012 at 15:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 37

Just musing since in the 3 days I've been off work, I have done 4 loads of washing. Actually I did a load on Thurs as well, so that's 5 loads in 5 days. If we had children, that's understandable, but it's only the 2 of us! Where does it all come from?!!!

I wonder this too as there are just the two of us and we do 4-5 loads a week but that includes bedding and towels. Still seems like a lot though.

I think do about 2 - 3 a week, which I don't think is too bad....I try to hold out for as long as possible because it takes so long to try in our house so hate having washing lying around everywhere!

At least one a day, sometimes 2. Weekends up to 2 a day. No kids either!

I think we do 3-4 loads each week. A white/light wash, a darrk/brights wash- sometimes two, bedding, and towels.

It is myself, two messy children and four cats... I have a large drum washing machine so do a towel wash once a fortnight (thats a double load) a yellow wash when needed (don't ask) a dark wash once a week and a lights once a week and bedding when needed (might be four times a week, might be once every two months). So in theory min two washes average possibly three.

Like flow, it's 2 per week and 3 if bedding included. We have to go to the laundromat type place around the corner from our flat which is a little irritating but you can put on a hell of a lot in one go which is quite handy. Awesome tumble dryers.

*realises she used the word 'awesome' in the same sentence as 'tumble dryers' and cries inwardly in despair*

Seems we're about average then. We tend to have bedding and towels (sometime bedding needs 2 loads to avoid overloading the machine), then OH gets through 5 shirts a week for work. My work shirts depend on how many shifts I have had. When I'm not at work, like today, I can lounge around in the same pair of jeans for a few days, and so does OH, but then other stuff mounts up, like tea towels, the bath mat, random towels that seem to appear in the house (e.g. from running kit, or if the cat has come in a soggy moggy from the rain).

5 loads done so far this week, and I'm pretty sure there will be more before the end of the week. Actually definitely - we've been sleeping in the spare room while re-flooring out room. We'll be back in our room tonight, which means spare room bedding needs to be washed, and that's 2 loads since it's a super-king bed in there. AaaarghhH!

I do "several", more than enough for Boy to grumble. I can easily do one a night. I am absolutely terrible for never wearing anything more than once, PJs included, regardless if it has only been worn for a few hours one night. I am trying to cure myself of this, as I'm sure jumpers can stand a few wears before washes.

I tend to let it pile up when I'm busy, especially if I don't have time on the weekends so I could go two weeks without doing any, then I'll do 5 or 6 loads over a weekend. I need a bigger laundry basket.

I should do a load a day (there's 6 of us though!) but I fell behind when pregnant & am still rubbish at keeping up with it. Today I've done 3 loads, but there's easily another 6 between our combined laundry baskets.

Only two of us in our house- I could do one a day but tend to do two every other day.

I have no idea how we generate so much- I am a bit paranoid about towels so they will only get used about twice then washed.

I am always drowning in washing. H wears his work clothes, changes into causal clothes when he gets back, then puts his PJ’s on for bed. I wear less clothes but cannot wear stuff more than once so between us we generate A LOT of washing. I could do 2 loads a day and still not be on top of it!

Our washer takes 3 hours for a normal cycle too which is a pain, and we have hardly any radiators, so I can never just have a washing day where I bang it all out quickly.

I do 2 bedding washes at weekends (one for us, one for DS), plus a dark and a light maybe in the week? We all wear clothes more than once. My H used to change his jeans twice a day ( he was a bit OCD with showering) but now he is much better and can do. 3or 4 days in a pair (his choice, not mine).

When DS was a proper baby we had so many clothes I don't think there was washing every day, mind you, anything covered in poo got washed straight away, so maybe I did do washing every day?

for me it's not the washing that bothers me, it's the bloody ironing. It's all hubby's stuff and not mine. Therefore I try and do it when he gets to a point he has nothing to wear! Lucky for me he wears mostly tshirts and polo shirts, which, if they are a bit small or hung up to dry, he can get away with them not being ironed

We do 4 /5 loads a week - 2/3 normal washes (I wear different clothes every day plus my gym gear). one for beds, one for towels & one for OH work clothes which is a full load itself.

We do a minimum of two loads a week - bedding and clothes. Every other week I do a boil wash for the towels.

We don't do a separate 'white' wash, as I basically banned anything white (other than towels) from the house - his mum used to send him white or cream t-shirts for Christmas but there was never enough for a full load and they had to be washed on a cold setting.

There is only two of us, though.

I probably do 4/5 clothes loads a week plus bedding - Usually one on a Wednesday night with 3 days work wear in for both of us, full of colours, two on a Friday (H wears 3 different types of kit during his 4 hour working day on a Friday - Desserty type kit, green kit and Phys kit) and I don't like his real dirty stuff going in with my nice dresses, plus he wears casual stuff after work and one on each weekend day - a lights and a dark/colours.

I don't mind poping my whites in with my white towels, as we dont have much at all during the winter, but otherwise i'd have to do more.

And ATM i'm washing baby things, so washer seems to be on twice a day!

why do you need to do this? I saw Moo was washing baby stuff the other day, do you need to wash the stuff before you put babies in it?

^ to make them all clean and free of the chemicals they spray new clothes with. Same reason you should wash your new clothes before wearing them!

1 each evening usually, and 2 per day at the weekend. There's 2 adults and 1 recently potty trained toddler with an amazing propensity to make a mess!!

2-3 a week maybe? Although hopefully be using real nappies so will have to do a load every night possibly ?

^ noooo. It's not as bad as you'd expect at all. I did a full load every 2-3 days of nappies. Best tip: get a bin the same size as your washer drum. Then when it's full, stick a load on. Sounds daft but will really help.

(I use this same tip for my normal laundry... we have a basket that fits one full load of washing at the top of our stairs instead of a big normal laundry bin now, cos when it's full we just put it in and on- when the bin was full, we'd have to pile it up in the kitchen cos it would fit 2-3 loads of laundry.)

Oh cheers! But doesn't it depend on number of nappies too? And if you have a dryer? How many did you have and did you have a dryer?

There are 3 of us in the house, me, H and an 18 month old toddler, I tend to do about 2 loads every other day as I like to keep up with the washing as I can't stand it piling up, I tend to do a dark load, light load and bedding once a week/fortnight depending and I do H's work gear once a week.

I normally do one load per day during the week, 2-3 loads per day at the weekend. During the week its just me, the child and the dog - OH is mostly only home at weekends because of work
