Learning to dance

samwiches, 16 May, 2012 at 20:44 Posted on Planning 0 8

Me and my OH are thinking of learning to a dance for our first dance together, and then surprise people when we get up on the floor. But we're not hugely rich (read struggling to pay bills a little right now), so I wanted to know what kind of prices we'd be looking at, and how many sessions on average are needed? Any tips?

We started dancing lessons which were £10 a week as it was a group sessions, their private sessions were £25 per couple for an hour.

I don't know if this is typical, we stopped going when the time changed and we couldnt manage it.

I have looked into a few other classes but most dont advertise prices, so its best to ring around or email. The few i have looked at have been similarish.

Consider if you feel you 'can't' dance, starting with a general class then taking private sessions afterwards when you feel all you need to organise is a set routine

We had 1 on 1 lessons 3 years ago , they were £15 a week but I have to say that was by far the cheapest quote we got at the time.

Thank you! That's really helpful. There's pretty much only one nearby that I can find for the kind of thing we would want, it said £4.50 for the weekly group sessions but then just £22 per couple for the private sessions, wasn't sure if that was per session. The price gap seemed quite big so I wasn't sure if that was normal haha. Thanks! ?

The £4.50 might be each person and then the £22 might be per couple maybe? The prices sound good to me anyway. We had to travel for 30 mins to get to ours so will definitely be looking closer to home next time.

Wish I could convince the OH to do this! Guess it will be shuffling round the floor for us ?

We are attempting to teach ourselves ?

There are some really good tutorials on YouTube for twists and spins etc so we are planning on just incorporating a few of those into our "routine"... this is inevitably going to be hilarious/a flop, but we'll have fun and I'm sure people will love it so we aren't too bothered.

    So far we only know:

But are planning on adding one move per week over the next 6 weeks Smiley smile

Depending on what sort of dance you want to learn and the type of tuition. A few years ago I joined a local jive class and it was around £5 per person. You only paid for what days you turned up and started off in a beginners group. It also didn't matter if you went alone as everyone was encouraged to dance with everyone else. It was very informal and very fun, learning to dance yet having a night out socialising too.?

We are paying £20 for 45 min weekly lesson and have had 5 lessons so far, we are now cutting down to fortnightly lessons a) we can practice at home now we've learnt the routine (lol) and b) saves a few £s. Our wedding is 5 weeks today!
