Dedicated June 2017

Let down and stressed

disneyfanatic95, 6 December, 2016 at 12:58 Posted on Planning 0 14

So we had a cake lady who weve used plenty of times and has been really good and reliable, she's done all of my brothers and sisters birthday cakes. We got in contact with her about 5 months ago for our wedding cake.

weve been making appointments to see her so we can discuss what cake we want and the designs, but every time we make an appointment she cancels the day before and as my stepmum is paying for our cake she has said that we can't rely on her, so we have had to make the difficult decision to look for someone else, we are hoping to use someone else we have used before, and recommended by my dad and stepmom. But with us being 6 months away I am so worried that we aren't going to get anyone!

so our backup plan is a Krispy Kreme tower which sounds cool but i don't know. Has anyone else had this problem with people letting them down, and is 6 months enough time?

We had a Krispy Kreme tower! We did have a cake on top that we could cut (it was choocolate!) but you could get someone who is good at baking to make you one - not as much pressure to make one tier than there is for a whole cake.

Everyone LOVED the cake, and every single bit went on the night - we should've bought more!

Yeah that sounds really good! I mean I bake cakes, I do birthdays for my family and friends but I don't want to be doing my own wedding cake. Because it's just added stress that I don't need.

I've seen a Krispy Kreme tower for £343 and has 216 doughnuts which would be more than enough.

i think because it's getting so much closer and because she keeps cancelling it's just making it more difficult

You definitely have time! I'm getting married on a bank holiday Saturday in May and I've literally only just sorted the cake.

You'll definitely find someone to help! We booked ours 5 months before, there is plenty of time still. Keep the donuts as a back up plan to stop yourself feeling too stressed. Find someone reliable, you don't want to be worrying weeks before the wedding x

You'll definitely find someone. We phoned a local (very good and very expensive) baker mainly so we could do the free tasting. We had a year to go but they take bookings for people with only a few weeks notice. We didn't go with them in the end but we know if we need a backup we could get them.

You're better off having ditched the unreliable one. Imagine how stressed you'd be if she was flaking out wth a few weeks to go!

Haha! Thanks, I like the sound of the doughnuts, and we're based in Peterborough, I'm waiting to hear back from another person who did my dad's and step mums cake. My stepmums going to email her as well haha! Poor lady will start to get annoyed but we need to get something sorted before I go back to work, it'll be so much harder once I'm working again xx

Oh wow, I think the Krispy Kreme tower looks amazing! Totally looking into this for myself now!!! If you wanted something more classic then you could always buy something from M&S or Waitress and then decorate it with you wedding flowers and some ribbom yourself? Cakes always look so much nicer once they're on a cake stand so bare that in mind when you're looking at them in their boring little boxes in store ?

Right, I'm off to Google Krispy Kreme wedding cake - best idea ever!!

We got told that 6 months min, for a fruit cake wedding, 2 months for a non fruit cake wedding cake. We surprised the bakery by ordering it in January and it was amazing! So you have plenty of time if it's not fruit cake, if it is, definitely look up Waitrose or M&S cakes.

Thank you, I think the closer and closer we are getting it looks like the Krispy Kreme cake is becoming more ideal, people just don't seem to be getting back to me, I can bake a cake myself, but wasn't really wanting to. I just can't believe how annoying a cake can be. I think OH would love the Krispy Kreme cake haha! As would my family. If never thought of that until this happened

Have you seen Pat Val's cakes? We photographed a wedding where the bride had one, we got to try it and have had it a couple of times for birthdays since as we loved it so much. It is reasonably priced as well! This is the one they had in particular - it is ideal for people who love chocolate:

    /

You only need a few days to give notice for a cake at Pat Val, you can order it online. You'd need someone to collect it on the day though.

Another option could be to have a Krispy Kreme cake with a Pat Val cake on top so you have a formal cake to cut, best of both worlds?

I do think you can potentially find someone with a few months to go if you want to have someone make something in particular. If you let me know where you are based I can try to recommend someone if I know of anyone in the area ?

    Hello,

Have you ever considered making your own? Or buying the plain ones from M and S, Asda etc. You can buy or make the decorations.

We're based in Peterborough. We've contacted a few people but no one seems to have gotten back to us. And this was at the beginning of December.

yeah I have considered making my own as I make cakes myself for birthdays but I just don't have the time as I am working right up to the day I get married and haven't got the time to decorate it as that seems to take forever.

My step mum is helping us look now as she is paying and is looking through who she knows and other people who has used people too.
