Let down by Hair & Make Up Company

nikinoodle, 3 June, 2011 at 13:10 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi,

Can anybody give me some advice. I should have had my hair & make up trial last Saturday.

The long and short of it is that the woman I booked has now cancelled on me by a text !!! at

9am last Saturday (the days of the trial). She was paid back in December last year for this.

Added to the stress of having to spend 3 hours finding a new company (I get married in 4 weeks) which thankfully I

now have, she will not answer my calls or emails asking for my money back. I have her

address so as a last resort I will go to her house but really want to aviod the hassle of that.

Any ideas?

thanks

That's awful! How much did you pay? I would send her a letter by recorded signed for delivery first before going around, and maybe if nothing comes from that you and your OH go round to discuss it. Of course depending on the amount you could always go through small claims court after the wedding but that could be expensiveand mega hassle. Hope someone on here has some other suggestions.

I know some of these companies wind me up. They have clauses that if you cancel within some many weeks you

have to pay 100% of the fees, but nothing about refunds when they cancel on you.

Keep a record of everything sent and agreed with dates and times. I would try firstly a firm email with a copy of said email sent recorded delivery to her home address, no waffle just very to the point, and would end it with something along the line of, " i do not wish to persue this matter via the small claims court but if i do not receive a satisfactory response by xx/xx/xxxx you will leave me no choice."

Fingers crossed it will then prompt a response, if not i would chase it via the small claims court system rather than go round face to face. ( Cause i am a great big wimp!)

Good luck getting your money back and with the wedding.

Definitely keep a record of everything! How did you pay her? Is there an entry on your bank statement?

Just send her a strongly worded letter and say that if you dont receive payment in full within 14 days you will issue proceedings against her in the County Court.

If she doesnt respond I wouldnt hesitate in taking her to court. Its really simple and you can issue proceedings online for £35 I think, which you'll get back from her when you get judgment!

I hope it doesnt come to that but definitely try the letter. I wouldnt go round there personally. Hopefully the letter will do.

    xxx
