Let it snow!

Bohemian Raspberry, 2 December, 2008 at 09:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Has anyone else woken up to a thick blanket of snow this morning? We're just north of manchester and it's absolutely chaotic due to the 4 inch covering we've had.

Most schools are shut, my work is shut, there's buses which have just given up and are parked up on the roads, OH has seen 5 car crashes on his 4 mile journey to work, it's chaos!!

No thick snow here, but black ice with frost on top, and several sirens since 6am .

Actually here in Scotland thick snow would be at least 8 inches deep! (and we'd all be out in our kilts heading to school/work whilst shooting haggis on the way!) ?

I don't think I can remember that last time we had snow like this, we normally get a 30 min snow shower and that's it so this is a thick covering for us.

I'm trying to upload a picture I took this morning at 7:00 but I've no idea how to do it?

    I know it's a struggle when you're not used to it ?

Not sure how to upload pictures.

    Enjoy the snow!

I too am in the same town as BR and BB and my husband and child are currently stuck in the snow trying to get back from school (which was shut, of course!) In my defence, though, we have a park right on our doorstep and no roads, so I didn't realise things had come to a complete standstill! Oops. The park outside looks ace but I can't find my lead to upload a 'photo. Boo.

Rochdale BB? This is ridiculous now. I've just walked it to the shops and near the village centre there is a dual carriageway which starts on a slight slope and over a railway bridge. There's currently 2 tractors there pulling lorries up it because the roads haven't been gritted at all and this road in particular is the main road in and out of the village to the motorway junction half a mile up the road.

Yep - no gritter here either. I workin the next town (Bury) and apparently non of the day staff had arrived when I called and had been sat in traffic for an hour + I also got a call from one of my team who had had to abandon her car as it wouldn't get up a hill and she couldn't turn around due to weight of traffic.

I'm in Stoke and we had about an inch over night but it's pretty much gone now as it's raining. Just hope it doesn't freeze or the city will be one big ice rink.

All schools we're open and the roads weren't too bad. There were some accidents in other areas of the city but i managed to avoid them. I work in a college which means that it's pretty quiet, some students have used the snow as an excuse not to come in.

I'm in Fife, and we've only had a bit. Enough to cover the ground, but not enough to build a snowman. It is snowing again now though.

Well apparently we're going to get double over the next 48 hours - news just been saying to expect around 8 inches, Ramsbottom (which I travel through to work) being worst hit ?

I'm just up the road from you and I could barely get my garden gate open tonight due to the snow behind it! What a difference a few miles make.

Not looking forward to tomorrow when the roads freeze. Think i'll get the bus to work rather than chance a bump in the car.

Didn't realise you were nearby - I actually took the day off after trying and failing to dig the car out! Luckily my boss had similar problems so was sympathetic. I think tomorrow night is supposed to be worst. Bus sounds like a good idea - unfortunately I would have to get three to get to work.
