Get rid of the tickers and let us see who the original poster was. Then I might like it more ?

It would be good if we could see the original poster of a thread!

    Darren,

Baby Talk has given me a lot of advice over the past year, this is the only reason I would still use this forum.

Hitched forums used to stand out from the rest and now it is just another american based discussion forum and makes us no better than confetti.

I know you have had problems with hackers and things could these not have been over come using the old style?

I find this new forum thing cold, hard on the eyes and just a little unpleasant... thank god the posters and the content is still the same.

Really nice to put a face to the name though, your website, as mentioned before, has given me a lot of help in the past so thank you but please please change it back.

    Kindest Regards

    (A possibly small minded) Whitetiger

Have to say I agree totally with everything WT said. I've been on here a long time and this new format is really awful.

I agree with crantock. And why is it complicated to reply with quote now? I am a tiggaa of very little brain and i am getting too old for change ☹️

oh - and my party hat back would be nice - i had to spend many hours neglecting my children to earn it - social services will be round if i have to start again from scratch.....

I find it frustrating that even a short post on a thread takes up lots of room due to the large size of the member profile box. More time spent scrolling = less time for reading and contributing. I like that the page selection drop-down box isn't used in this format though. I hope we'll see most of our feedback incorporated into the format as time allows.

I don't mind it at all. There are a few things that could be amended like

    • I want to know who the original poster is.
    • i am finding it hard to navigate round ( I couldn't see a way of getting back to the forum after i had edited my user profile).
    • i don't like tickers. AT ALL. I wouldn't like the forum to keep that feature - or just limit it to the planners!
    • Someone has used the CHEERS icons and I can't get to it. I want to get to all the icons.

at least you managed to get yours. I got so close and now nada. I've been looking forward to it ever since I got my wings when on ML with Meg.

Have to say I'm with the others, Hitched has lost a certain something. I think it will appeal to new WP'ers, excited by wedding day countdown tickers and being able to easily post pics but not those of us who come to the boards to chat. Still I guess its to be expected, Hitched is a Wedding Website after all and I doubt enough of us will leave to make a difference because as WT says its the people that make these boards, not the layout

    - reply options a bit complicated (quoting complicated, having to go to 'options' for icons, quick reply isn't quick) - takes up too much screen space - navigation a bit wierd see - ban tickers please ....I want the old one back OR something more like one of these: http://212.227.165.204/forumFT/list.php?4 http://www.blissmessageboard.org.uk/index.php

If you go into your profile & click the Site Options Tab you can disable signatures. Can you make it so that we can disable Tickers as well?

I'm having trouble getting used to it at the moment - it all seems a bit complicated. Can I ask what the stars at the top of the posts are for please? The other thing I was wondering is what rules apply to businesses with regards to avatars and signatures? Thanks suz x

I don't like it at all.

It's too big, the double spacing is annoying, we're able to decide for ourselves what needs double spacing.

The Poster ID box is enormous and, other than user name and post count, totally unecessary in my opinion, as are signatures.

Allowable tickers I can live with as I suspect few of my cronies will use them so I probably won't be aware of them.

We need to be able to see the original post while replying to be able to respond properly

Oh and you're canvassing our opinion, is that because there's a possiblity of major change?

If so I suspect more people might respond. At the moment it seems to be a fait accompli.

If this means an end to the hackers then great, however I am not a fan of the new layout; so a couple of points from me:

    • There is too many blank space, caused particularly by the large member box.
    • The date is written as though we were American. I like my date DD/MM/YY style. I've managed to sort this now thanks to Lady Falafel (I think!) on BT
    • Not being able to see previous replies when reply to a thread is also difficult. I have a brain not too dis-similar to a sieve and when responding to "personals" (eg TTC and trimester daily threads) it would be nice to see the last 10 replies or so to help my poor little brain cell to cope.
    • Tickers - I am not a fan of these at all. It makes it look like so many other forums, which I avoid using due to them - I also think I've managed to get rid of these - at least I've got rid of signatures at any rate! Again, thanks to LF!
    • Inserting smileys - I managed to insert the ? icon into a thread title I replied to. No idea how I did it - or how to get it into my reply - which is where I wanted it!

Hopefully there'll be some alterations to this format and as Tilly Floss wrote, it won't be a fait acompli.

ETD: I've managed (with help!) to solve some of the problems.

I have lost my previous post count! ? So I am not happy! It is similar to other forums out there that I stoped using because of the signature boxes and how hard it was to read the thread. Hitched has kind of lost it's Hitchedness! But then I am miserable and do not like change!!!

Any Hitched is better than no Hitched, but would prefer to see:

    OP like we had before.

No tickers, as mentioned makes it look like every other forum.

English date (I did try to change tha language in my profile to see if it would go to UK English, but US English is the only option) EDITED BECAUSE I HAVE JUST SPOTTED THAT THE DATE IS NOW ENGLISH! THANK YOU!?

On the profile page, I entered my wedding date, but once saved it comes up as being my birthday. I would dearly love to be able to say I'm only 17, but sadly I'm not!?

Not a fan at all. I usually avoid forums with tickers and annoying signatures because they tend to take up half the space on a reply, I'd hate to see Hitched go the same way. And profile pics - do we really need them?

Also, when replying, I like to be able to see the last 10 replies, please bring that back. And being able to see who started a post would be great.

    Hi Darren

A few points from me are:

    • When clicking on the home page for OT/WP/BT, it's so close to the top of the page that I keep clicking into the shop and venues links, which is a nightmare.
    • The user profile box is unnecessarily big and takes up too much space.
    • Why have you allowed tickers and sigs, it was one of the things that attracted many users to the site, I suspect it will end up driving a lot away.
    • Not having the box at the bottom of the page to flick between forums is making the site a lot harder to navigate, please bring it back.
    • I hate not being able to see who started threads, this seems to be an issue for a lot of people.
    • Finding our old icons is a pain, although not that important.

Overall, Darren, I think the site is not as user friendly as it was which will put people off, and you've made it look like every other cheesy wedding and baby site out there, which is a real shame because Hitched was different to all the others.

I know you've had to step up security and that entailed making changes, but I think you should bring back a lot of the old features which made the site what it was.

    Good

It is aligned right to the left - floating it to the right a bit would be better, or chucking in a 20 pixel margin

Where is the search? UPDATE - found the search - it needs the word "SEARCH" putting next to it in white, at the top, on the right in the purple area!!!!

Right - so I have had a good half hour looking at this new format again as I didn't really have the time this morning. It's not very easy to use at all I'm afraid especially to people like me who aren't computer minded at all. I could just about manage to answer a post on the old Hitched but that's about it! So what I don't understand is what the hell are tickers and blinkies? When you reply to a post, do you press "reply" or do you press "in reply to" ? Also, I liked the way you could just hop on and off the old Hitched whilst you were working away but you can't on this because you don't know who has posted what and who said what in their answer IYSWIM! And how come I have to log in every time when I've saved the page in my favourites? Also I really don't like the way it copies other wedding websites which I never used because of the silly signatures - they are so annoying! Oh. just seen this space for a "tag" - what's a tag?

Totally agree Brenda, I used to have the window open all day & just refresh but it is so long winded now it is impossible to do.

Not sure about the Online visitors bit.

    Double Space is annoying.

You can't add pics properly or the smiley's dont always work on mine.

Don't like how you can't see the whole thread when replying.

    Good Points?

    I'll get back to you!

Bring back the old Yellow Hitched!!!

Not finding it very easy to navigate and it's difficult to read. Preferred the old post. Smilie window opens very small and I can't see them all.

Surley all dates should be dd/mm/yyyy not mm/dd/yyyy with it being a .co.uk website.

This post pretty much sums it up for me. It's definately not as user friendly and since I am not techie minded it's all a bit much for my little brain.
I am not sure how much of this revamp is to prevent hackers or because you felt like the old format was tired - but unfortunately it's a bit too much like Confetti and all the other forums.
