Lie-ins on a weekend.

JK, 3 August, 2008 at 19:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 40

I don't remember ever having these after the age of 25. Why would you want to sleep half the day? I'm a grumpy old woman aren't I? An old giffer who hangs around the papershop at opening time because I've been awake since 5.30am ?

So who has lie-ins, for how long and why? And what do you do, sleep? Or shag? Justify your sloth ?

What do you classify as a lie in? I didn't get up until 9am this morning which is a lie in for me. I read for about an hour before getting up and was awake-ish for about an hour before that.

Once I'm awake I generally get up, but then I don't normally wake until about 1000 -that seems to be my natural wake up time. I always used to blame it on having permanent jet lag for the last 5 years, now I'm blaming pregnancy - although in reality I am just an inherently lazy and can not justify it.

I live for my weekend lie ins! I'm up at 6 a.m. every day in the week and rarely get to sleep before midnight ever so I use the weekend to catch up on much-needed sleep. I sleep until I wake, which is usually around 10, although yesterday I was awake at 8 and got up then.

Oh blimey jelly baby. Make the most of it, do. Because without wishing to sound like the parenting bad-fairy, it's all a nightmare from hereon in, sleep-wise.

I'd say 8.30 here is a lie-in. It feels like utter, utter luxury. But I'm up as soon as I'm awake.

I tend to turn the alarm off at the weekend so tend to get up at 8 / 8.30 latest rather than 7ish in the week, so I guess that is a lie in. I know what you mean though as post 25 I hate staying in bed past 9.30 as I feel that the weekend is too precious. The hangover has to be veerryy bad to not get up !?

I do have friends who still see it as perfectly normal to not get up until 11 on a weekend as they are 'tired' and it drives me crazy. God help them if they ever have kids!

JK, I'm doing even more lazing around now because I figure I've only ever got another 5 months before that's it for ever. Although bizarrely my mum was saying that even as a baby I'd wake up for breakfast at about 6.30ish but then go back to sleep for a nap from 7 'til 10. Every single day. But ... it was a pain for her because she wanted to be out and about and I was a grumpy sod if I was woken before 10. I want a baby like that.

I am usually up about 6am in the week. At a weekend I class 8.30am/9am a lay in. We have a dog and she usually starts barking about 7am so if we get to 9am its a bonus. Once I am up I can't go back to bed.

Husband on the other hand sleeps in until at least 11am if not longer.

Generally i get up when i wake up

but i nodded off again this morning until 9.30 - in my defence i tend to work late and not get to sleep until 1ish - then generally have to be up 7/7.30 - so now and again i need a catch up

if i dont have anything particular to do but am awake i sometimes lie in bed and read for a while

in the main i dont really like the frowsty flopping in bed that i loved as a teenager

Once I'm up I'm up. Pre children I used to lounge around in bed for most of the morning, reading the papers, shagging, dozing...bliss. But I don't any more.

That said, we have a lie in each over the weekend, to counteract the chronic sleep deprivation. But we SLEEP! This morning I slept until 11:15am.?

Pre baby I was up during the week at 5.30 and had a lie in at weekends until about 6.30? I used to just sleep tbh. I couldn't read, which is what I would have done Pre H, because it would wake him up. I did used to come on here in the early mornings if it didn't look like H would be up for a while.

Now with baby I am normally up properly for the day at 7 during the week and today managed a lie in (due to H keeping baby asleep) until 7.45. I took the opportunity and slept!

I usually sleep until about 1pm on a Sunday. That's the thing though, I sleep until that time. This morning I woke up at 11am, and Mr K thought something was wrong when I appeared in the sitting room. ? Mr K is always up before 9am, and he really enjoys his quiet Sunday mornings.

I do appreciate it is a bit of a waste of the day though, and I've joined a drama school that has lessons on Sundays, so this will soon be a thing of the past - at least during term time.

In the winter, on really cold Sundays, occasionally Mr K and I will stay in bed all day. He goes out to get papers, lattes, pastries etc then we switch the phones off and lie in bed all day reading, watching TV and shagging. We only get up in the evening to make dinner. I love those days.

We have no children - of course.

I get up at 7 on weekdays and Im not a morning person at all. So on a weekend I tell Mr WT to wake me at 10am so I can have a lie in, sometimes I naturally wake before this but more often than not Im still asleep until I get woken. I plan on this being the case til the day I pop me clogs too, weekends are for resting, and what better than a lovely lie in?!

OMG. What I would do for proper sleep, never mind a lie in. I want to go to sleep, not be woken by a baby or a toddler, and wake when my body says i've had enough sleep, which will probably be in about 2 months time ?

Until very recently, I always woke up at around 6am and that was that. I'd stay in bed given a chance; reading, thinking, talking to H etc. My insomnia has finally abated in recent months and I've started sleeping longer in the mornings. This weekend, the baybeh has slept until 9.30am both days ? - and so have we!

H gets a lie-in every Saturday and it's my turn on Sunday. I sleep and it's bliss. 6 days a week I'm on toddler duty from 6am at the latest, and once a week I get to turn over and go back to sleep. I hate sleeping past about 10 though as that feels like I've wasted half the day- 9.30 is a nice time to get up.

I don't tend to be able to stay asleep much these days beyond my normal getting up time which is 7.45. It annoys the hell out of me because when I wake up I still feel tired but once I am awake I can never get back to sleep. H on the otherhand will sleep and sleep and its not unusal for him to sleep until past 11am. It annoys me because it is such a waste of our time together ...I kinda feel like we should be doing stuff/seeing friends etc etc at the weekend but to be honest that is just my odd view of life Smiley smile ...

As a yougster I just couldn't lie in and would often be up at 7.30 at the weekend. However as I've gotten older I've developed the talent of lying in and today dozed, and er 'shagged', etc until about 10.30am - it's great. It's like suddenly being an early twentysomething 10-15 years late?

I'm looking forward to some lie-ins - first for ages - as I've just given up my M-F job and my Saturday job is in jeopardy so I could go from one extreme to the other! However, I've so much to catch up on around the house and especially the gardens and allotments so I dare say I won't be lying in for long. It's more the thought that I CAN do so rather than I actually will.

Watch some so-and-so go and offer me another job and spoil things ;-)

Pre-baby, I loved not getting up until I woke up and that could be as late as 11 am, although that was unusual.

I loved having breakfast in bed, newspapers, reading and polite conversiation with H. I remember spending all day in bed with him watching the Live 8 show.?

Once awake I'm awake though and now it's unusual if we get to sleep past 7 - I let H lie in to about 10 am at the latest now while I wrestle the young un. I get annoyed that he's so lazy in the morning (although he's improving) but he does need more sleep than me. He just does!

I can't lie in past 9am at the latest but usually it's more like 07:30 - 08:00. I get bored and have to get up. H got up just in time for the F1 today but then his body clock is totally different to mine and he probably didn't get to sleep untill 05:00.

I love having lie-ins. H never goes to sleep before around 3am and I wake about 7/8ish and it's my time to catch up on trash TV. We generally get up at 10am, when H wakes up. Every so often we have a day where we don't get up at all (well other than to feed the dogs and grab food). We lounge in bed all day, total bliss!

I love being in bed, it's my favourite place ?

We have a lie in most weekends, unless we have something planned. We do actually all sleep though! Were very lucky, our 2 kids have always been great sleepers. From a very early age they have slept at least 12-14 hours over night. So at the weekends we get a lovely lie in, normally until 10ish. I dont know why the girls sleep as long as they do, i really dont. I bet that changes when #3 turns up, he is bound to show us what having a non sleeping baby is like!

I dont't sleep well at night, so often by the weekend I'm hanging. At the weekend I very often have a lie in or an afternoon nap if I'm not busy.

Yesterday I was up early and out all day but today I didn't get up until 1ish. I woke up at 5, 7, 8, 10 and 12 but just stuck the radio on quietly and dozed off again.

I don't get enough sleep in the week so make an effort to catch up at the weekend.

My H goes to bed much later than me, and needs to do even more catching up, so he generally sleeps very late at the weekend, and I don't like to get up before him as Saturday is our day to spend together, so even if I'm awake I will stay in bed. I don't consider it a waste of time - it's one of the great things about weekends!

We usually get a lie-in on a Saturday or Sunday depending on what night Wee Braw stays at Grans. We work at night so my body clock is generally fooked. I seem to be able to survive on around 4-6 hours sleep becuase I find it hard to sleep before 12 am and am up with Wee Braw every morning.

We used to have days very much like Poochanna. Whole days in bed with books, movies, paninis from the caff down stairs, ice-cream from the tub and a break somewhere inbetween to take the dogs for a walk. *sigh*

I work 3 days a week 8am -8pm so have 4 days off. on those 4 days off, I rarely wake before 10am but then I am a lazy cah.

Since Mr T retired a month ago, I have actually been getting up earlier than 10 on my days off as his body clock has been programmed to get up at 530am for far too many years so he is always up and pottering around.

Weekends are the same - long lie in, papers, TV, cooking and pottering. I love my weekend lie ins but know that I am lucky as I get 2 more during the week ?

I usually get up between 9 and 10 am at the weekends. I get up when I wake up though, I don't lie in bed awake. When people talk about lie-ins do they mean actually sleeping or just staying in bed? I get up when I wake up but that is generally quite late if left to happen naturally.
