bostongirl, 15 January, 2009 at 21:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

We are having a cheese fondue for dinner when we have friends over this w/end (OK, I know its very 70's but we (and they) love it!)

Any ide awhat I can make for dessert.Must be light and refreshing - light on the fat and cream.

Was thinking maybe sorbet, but would prefer something homemade.

Fruit salad maybe, or why don't you do a homemade sorbet?

I was going to suggest a posset, but maybe not ?

I'm not a fan of jellies and sorbets and the like - I'd rather have nothing. Maybe just some amaretti biscuits and pudding wine and coffee? I think something biscuity or pastry-y would work if it was v light and intense.

Had wondered about fruit salad, but not sure if other people eat that for dessert - over here (inthe US) its more of a breakfast thing.

How do you make sorbet? Is it easy and foolproof. Anyone got any tried and tested recipes? I like Mango and lemon best.

Sophie: liking the biscuits and dessert wine idea too (I'm liking the easiness!. Pastry-wise, my specialities are lemon meringue, key lime, mincemeat tart, and apple pie, none of which I would class as light.

Problem is we have people coming over for dinner both Fri and Sat... too much thugh for one weekend! The Friday night lot are getting key lime pie!

You could do pavlova but without the cream, so fruit & meringue

Like Sophie my initial thought was a lemon posset until I read you didn't want cream.

How about some stewed rhubarb served with ice cream? Or baked apple?

    G&T jelly

or a granita made with sparkling wine - dead simple to do (though not really the right time of year, best with fresh strawberries)

You could get a selection of fruit - cherries, mandarin segments, strawberries, pineapple etc.

Melt some chocolate and dip the pieces of fruit half in. Then refrigerate them until set and very cold.

They're lovely and refreshing but still 'deserty' because of the choc.

We had a retro dinner party a while back, with fondue and all ? and I did orange and lemon sorbet - inside hollowed out oranges/lemons, of course. Dead, dead easy and went down really well. Haven't got a recipe though, sorry
