Light in the Box: Opinions and experiences!

stephanieeff, 19 April, 2012 at 14:43 Posted on Planning 0 6

As we will be budgeting our wedding (with the exception of TOG, Venue and Reception) the cheap wedding dresses on this site look too good to be true.

Here's the conflict, I would normally stay well away from this site, as a member of my family ordered a dress from China and it was hideous. One of my bridesmaids got her prom dress from here and it was FANTASTIC.

SO. Can anyone share with me their experience if any?

I don't feel comfortable buying some of the £200+ items for fear they will be awful, but I've seen a nice dress for £60, should I risk it?

    Hi Stephanieeff,

I've had two friends that have each used Light In The Box for their bridesmaid dresses, and as a result I will be too!!

One of my friends has recommended that if I do use them, then I should get the dresses made at the same time (not on different orders). This isn't a problem for me as I am having only two bridesmaids. She recommended this as she ordered one dress initially to make sure that they were good quality (obviously she was worried about spending money and for it to go wrong!). When she ordered the additional three dresses at a later stage, she noticed that the stitching was slightly different - not noticeable if you didn't know.

My other friend went with this advice for her wedding last year and ordered all of dresses with no problem at all - In fact she is featured on the 'Real Weddings' link.

    Good luck!

Its actually MY dress that I was going to get from there. I'm not a massive fan of the usual 'big' wedding dresses and have seen something that is 'very me' I know whatever I buy and wherever its from I will end up having some part of it customised or some sash thing added so I might as well risk it,. After all its not like I will be wasting 100's of pounds if it all goes wrong.

Nice to hear other people have had good experiences though ?

    HI,

I had a dress made through this website in a custom fit.

No complaints with the quality of the workmanship and the dress was gorgeous ( happy to send you a pic if you want) but I did have to pay extra custom and tax which was just under £20.

I will also consider using this website for my bridesmaids dresses.

    Hope that helps!

I got my wedding dress from there and couldn't be happier with it!

Customs can be a killer, but because I ship internationally from my business I was already aware of it. I agree they could warn people more though.

Customs and excise duty is based on purchase price- as an example, my dress was about £150 and the customs was £70

Still cheaper than a lot of other places though and I love my dress so much- it's very well made Smiley smile
