Light In The Box - Too Good To Be True?

**Shelley**, 17 March, 2012 at 16:34 Posted on Planning 0 3

Has any of you UK hitchers purchased anything from LightInTheBox.com? If so, what was your experience; the quality of what you purchased; customer service and shipping taxes/fees.

I have seen a whole load of lovely things on there but am dubious as the site appears to be based in China and everything is sooooo cheap making think it's too good to be true!

So just basically wondering whether to go ahead and order things or should I avoid like the plague?!!?

Not too good to be true - as long as you take it for what it is.

It is in China, some of the wedding dresses are copies of other designs. But that doesn't mean they aren't good quality.

I am ordering my bridesmaid dresses from there. Not placed the order yet as the girls are losing weight but I have ordered a 1/2 metre material sample and it's perfect.

Because the shipping is from China, you have to consider and factor in that you will likely be charged by customs. LITB are good about marking the packages as gifts to try and avoid this but if there are charges you are liable. My £65 dresses will be more like £100 after shipping and customs, but if I don't get charged by customs they'll be about £80.

Be sure to allow plenty of time and opt for the longest shipping method. Also make sure you measure up using their size guide rather than just using your normal size.

I chatted to them via their online help before I even ordered a sample and they were helpful.

    HTH.

Unless you want to chance over £100 just to 'test' their merchandise, I wouldn't bother. You might get lucky, but most I've read about have said how cheap the materials seemed and how the design was only a little similar to that chosen. Most I read about say that when their dress arrived (if it arrived on time) in an A4 envelope, they knew it couldn't be good!

It's the old addage - you get what you pay for! That being said, I shopped around for sample sales online and you've be suprised how may retailers will allow you to purchase the dress and have a refund if it's not 'the one' so long as you pay the postage back to the retailer. This is how I got my £1300 Pronovias for £150!!

    Good luck!

Thanks all very helpful. I already have my dress and my query was more in relation to veils and shoes - sorry I should have said! Smiley surprise)

I read the reviews on some of the items and they all seemed positive. I'm not getting married until October so length of delivery wouldn't be a problem although I am an impatient little minx!

I check eBay for veils instead just to see what I can find.
