List of photographs?

missdeedee, 6 April, 2010 at 10:37 Posted on Planning 0 26

Does anyone have a list of pictures they are asking the photographer to take? (I mean posed photo's of guests/family).

I don't even know where to start!

I took mine from wedding magazines and then wrote my own....however, there just wasnt time for a huge list so many pics were missed out.... i seperated them into 3 catergories; PRE CHURCH BRIDE, AT CHURCH GROOM, AT HOTEL.

    PRE CHURCH example;

    bride on own

    bride and cbm

    bride and mum

    bride and dad

    bride and mum and dad

bride n bridesmaids.. etc etc etc etc its really what YOU want and what you have time to get...

You and your wed website had downloads...least i think it was them....for planning and one was a wedding pic spreadsheet...have a nosey about. It might have been cosmo bride...really cant recall that far back but was useful to an extent.

mum still gripes about her lack of pics, as i also took the opportunity to get non-wedding fotos, but family pics ie my dad sees his grandkids once a year so a portrait of them together as a 3....

and i dont have one of me and my dad on our own, i think i took it as read that would happen automatically....theres ones with him but not a real dad n daughter piccy?? and I only see him once a year too!

Be aware of how long formal photography can take and decide if you want to allow enough time to do all the photos you want......Many pros reckon on 3 minutes for each formal shot, so time quickly racks up,

That said, some shots can be done before the ceremony(as long as you are ready on time!!!!)

I don't want loads of formal pics, but there are pictures I would like taken, like me and my grandad. As far as the pictures of me and my OH go, I've left that completely to the tog on the day. I wanted to get the formal pics out of the way first and I thought we would really save time and not miss pic's by having a list.

Many lists get overly long, alhthough in reality each wedding has a different dynamic tha makes up the list requirement. What you need is a list of specific shots rather than a list of all possible shots(nearly) that many magazines and websites put to print. What is also relevent is the make up of the parents(divorced, seperated, new partners, wont talk or stand together etc)

My own starting point revolves around the main bridal party and the variant shots therein. These are usually the key players on the day, although I then bring in the shots the couple have requested, and this list will depend on the earlier mentioned dynamic. Your photographer should put all of this to you at the pre-meetings so they have a clear idea on the day of what you want.

Specifically, I like to get all shots of the bride and her family members(mum, dad, bridesmaids) done before the ceremony, likewise with the groom. This saves a lot of time after which allows more some more relaxed imagery.

    Hope this makes some sense.

    Thanks Peter,

Yeah, it's more the specific shots Im looking to do a list for, for instance, my OH's gran and grandad will have travelled up from wales to scotland and I know my OH would really like a photo of him and them on there own etc.

Im just going to put together a list of the 'unordinary' pics and then a list of ones I am assuming the tog will do as standard (as you said, bride and groom and parents etc)

I personally individually do the bride both mum and dad and then individually(same for the grooms family)....and evolve this if there are more or sadly lass parents involved.

These shots are usually done before the ceremony to save time. After the ceremony, both sets of families come together. Unless requested, I don't repeat the earlier shots outside the church....again this is usually all part of the premeet discussions.

For safety, I would assume nothing and make sure that what you want is fully understood. (It probably will be, although its best to be sure...it calms your worries if nothing else)

Alot o the shots of family are pretty much common sense when you think about it,, we send out a worksheet about two weeks before the wedding to help our couples think about the group shots, and keep them to a reasonable number. They will take more time to do than you think, because it can be like herding cats to gather people together. Get your ushers to earn their dinner and make sure they help with that.

I encourage you to refer to your guest list, and circle family, his in blue, hers in red, close friends in green, etc, and start from there. Be sure to allow plenty of time for any group shots tho, this is the one thing people don't tend to give enough time for. Guests hate doing these, and will drag their feet, not realizing how much they are holding up the day from moving forward.

I would normally say to bare in mind that your photographer is going to take alot of candids of most everyone there, but after seeing the photos of a friend's brother's last night, I can't speak for every photographer, lol. It will help to discuss this with them, and that way your expections can more easily be met.

Most photographers should know all of these anyways, The best thing to do is talk to your photographer and get a list which is made up of out of the ordinary shots,

I.e Bride with college friends, Bride and groom with aunt and uncle from australia.

The photographer will know that he needs to get a picture of the imidiate family, bride getting ready, Bride and grrom signing the register. I always like to talk about the smaller things as well, I.e back of the dress being done up, Jewellery being put on, maybe going to a certain part of the venue for pictures.

You also have to take in to account the weather and locations, as you cant get a picture looking in to a mirror if there is no suitable mirror, Or bride getting out of the car if it is tipping it down with rain.

My advice is rather than looking at the day as a whole look to the more special shots or special group shots, Take pictures out of a magazine that you like. Also make sure they know about your family structure.

I've only asked for some family ones - me with my mum, dad and sister and another with them plus my grampa and gran. They OH wanted one with his family.

Thats about it, wondered if I should have made it more detailed than that cos I assumed the wedding party would be photographed with us anyway???

I think it's important to keep your formal shots to a minimum in order that you and your guests spend your day relaxing and having fun. I advise listing the KEY family shots for your photographer and then have a separate list of desired shots that maybe they can try to capture less formally whilst you are off chatting with your guests. I also suggest having a photographer (maybe a second, cheaper one) for the evening so you really can get all those shots you want without your guests getting really bored (the posed shots really do take longer than you'd expect because guests just DON'T stop their conversation and put their drink down when they are asked to go for a photo! you can't blame them, they're having fun!).

I've just set up as a photographer (rachaelince.co.uk) and think I'm going to go and write a blog about this right now. Thanks for the inspiration.

Be careful over this as some photographers do have a wedding exclusivity clause in their contract....It is also probable that a photographer will not include anothers images in their albums......best to check.....

Assuming you've booked a professional photographer they'll go through all this list with you and tailor everything to your requirements.
