Sorry to crash but this looks wonderful. Is that your actual reception room too?

Feel free to crash! Smiley smile yes that is the banqueting hall at blackfriars restaurant in Newcastle, it's a medieval friary in the centre of town, absolutely beautiful ( well to me it is!) xx

It's funny you should say that but the grounds it is in the centre of town so it's quite built up in the surrounding areas now but my granda had a book of Newcastle and showed all the old photographs (this was years ago before I knew it existed) and I had the same feeling. i felt that I lived in one of the houses in the grounds when they were still there! Spooky

Come to think of it, neither have I! I can't say I noticed when I went to see the place. Was in awe of the stained glass windows.

Aw, I absolutely love Blackfriars, the food is always really good and the staff are lovely. We briefly looked into having our reception there but went with Cafe 21 as it's where we had our first date.

Love the dress and headpiece images too; I also had a tea length dress and birdcage veil. Can't wait to see your wedding; I just love Newcastle and the Quayside is great for pics!

They have a courtyard but not huge, nice enough and quite secluded given its location for drinks and photographs outside if the weather is nice.

Even around the town? Your TOG might have shot there before and have some ideas?

Thanks Nicky, I just love the whole 50s style and always knew that's the style of dress I wanted; I tried a couple of long ones but they just didn't feel right although they were beautiful. I wanted an element of fun in my wedding too, nothing too serious as that's not me, I have a polka dot theme (which I have no photos to flash) but invitations, cake etc are all pink and white polka dot, my bridesmaid is in a fifties style dress in raspberry pink. I did try and get groom in a 50s style suit but no, he's not having it but I've got to give him a little bit of input haha

Haha, you can't win them all! Everything sounds lovely. Are you having your ceremony at Blackfriars as well? I never knew they were licensed to hold ceremonies x

She is a friend of a friend doing photography at uni, think she's only done one wedding before but I'll be meeting with her to discuss photos and where we want them etc. my friend had photographs taken on the quayside by the bridges but I am (so is Steven) quite nervous about 'people' seeing us posing for pics in our finery! I'd rather it was private with only my guests being able to see. I've obviously not done this before so have no idea what will look good for photos, what should be done, etc.

Yes they are licensed for ceremonies and I didn't realise this until our wedding was booked. We are having plain and simple civic centre do,but have booked the haymarket suite instead of the registry office.

That is understandable. I went into town with one of my couples and the groom asked his Wife if she was nervous. Her reply was "No, I don't know these people and won't see them again either". Stuck in my head.

If you want any advice or help then let me know ?

We also had the Haymarket room as we had too many guests for the register office. I hadn't seen the room before the day and wasn't keen on it from the pic on the website, but it was a lot nicer than I thought it would be.

We had the group shots outside the civic centre, and then the two of us went down to the Quayside for some shots together. I was really nervous about everyone looking at us but our tog was brilliant and it was actually quite good fun. People were congratulating us, saying I looked lovely etc and it was really nice; it just reminded me what a friendly place we live in!

If you're after some ideas for pics, or want to have a nosy at the ceremony room etc. you are welcome to have a look at our wedding pictures if it might help? Just let me know; the album is on my husbands FB page and I *think* they are public but need to check that....

Aimee, The car is from Fearon's down ouseburn ( under byker bridge) they seem really nice and quite reasonable and probably handy for you?. I spoke to a man called Tony Fairley, nothing was too much bother for him, I went to see my car prepared for another wedding and it looked fab! I haven't actually got my veil/hairpiece yet but that's pretty close to what I want Smiley smile

thank you DaffodilWaves, I will get in touch if I have any questions regarding photographer, I'm yet to meet her to discuss but maybe you have a few tips for me like shots to ask for etc...

nicky yes I'd love to see pics! I too wasn't so enamoured by the room from the pic on website but went along and asked for a look and its much nicer in real life and a lot bigger than I thought it would be too. How long we're you there? My book only asks me to pick 3 songs (entrance, signing register, leaving) but I understand that I might need more than one song for signing the register?

thanks for all your comments girls, feeling a lot better about what I've chosen now as I know it's not all 'normal' lol but neither am I! Haha xxx

Aimee, £325 for the car, that's to pick mam, brother, bridesmaid (only have one, my sister) and her partner and taking them to civic, then back for me and dad, then it will wait while we get married then take us on to Blackfriars. I thought it was quite reasonable xx.

Nicky, I will go and have a look now, I love a good nosey at peoples wedding pics!! xx
