little venue flash and opinions on chairs

cantwait2bmrsj, 22 January, 2014 at 23:42 Posted on Planning 0 23

I took my mum to our venue on Saturday so she could have a look around. Its quite modern and quirky so was a little nervous it wouldn't be to her taste but she loved it. Her only quibble was about the chairs! She thinks we need chair covers "to finish it off" so been getting some quotes and told fiancé about them today. He's happy to have them but now i'm doubting myself again as I actually quite like the chairs and worry that I'll be spending money unnecessarily. Argh confusing myself now going backwards and forwards! Links to a couple of pictures below to give you an idea, what do you guys think?

I definitely wouldn't cover them! I like them because they're quirky. Plus I HATE chair covers. You could have chairs that are different to the norm, or chair covers that everyone has (and are horrible and an unnecessary expense).

I agree with everyone else, covering them isn't necessary, they're really nice. Its an expense that you can get away with, dont do it!

They are lovely chairs.. and with the money that you could save by not covering them go and treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. X

^^^^^ This!! Those chairs are so cool!! Lucky you not having to use chair covers. I dont know if your mum is like some mums, who in their head think about whats seen as the 'norm' at weddings to have chair covers. Mine certainly is, unfortunately for us our chairs (mahogany with stained mint seats anyone) are horrid so we need to cover them, but we're only doing the ceremony ones to save money and as it'll be dark in the night no one will see them!!

The chairs are lovely - I think most of us wish all venues had such fab chairs.

I agree with the others, do not cover them. Your mum is definitely just going with what she thinks is the norm instead of actually seeing what is in front of her.

    Hi ,

this is going to sound rather odd and in my opinion the chairs look great and I would be happy to sit on them!

but do you think your mum thinks the chair covers would provide some sort of comfort level with them being hard chairs ? do you have many older guests that would maybe feel uncomfortable sat on a harder chair for the wedding breakfast ?

its the only thing i could think of that may be why you mum has said to cover them ( i know myself that this would not give much more comfort )

if it is a comfort thing I think i would get a few cusions in my colour scheme that can be on hand for if any one wishes to use ( keep in a sepearte room and then they can be offered if needed )

    Hale x

    Another vote for not covering,
Have a closer look at the covered chairs picture across the top at the back and then further down the middle of the back, the chair covers dont quite sit right. Most chairs that covers are made to fit are not that shape.
I have some of these chairs but looking at the picture -do I see that those have a diamond pattern on them, I ask because my chairs can be slippy to sit in and a cover would make this worse, a cushion would also be inclined to slip. BUT my chairs do not have a diamond pattern on them.

You have all convinced me! Now just to convince the mum. I always thought they were lovely and a bit different but then her comment threw me. She was probably thinking "wedding" in her head though and thinking about other weddings she's seen. And I agree with the cushion comment too some guests I'm sure would appreciate a cushion . Been eyeing up some sparkly fabric to make a runner for the top table so might use the money I will save on that. Thanks again for all your help

They rouche up a bit dont they. They look like either diamonds or hexagons to me but yeah I can imagine that they might be quite slippy.

The texture on them should help, maybe take along a seat pad and have a try and then you could always add some ties.

Looking through some of my past weddings,I see that most chair covers are not a perfect fit anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about that but you could use that to help convince your mum.

I think most hotel chairs are the bulk buy conference type with a rounded top like my photo and so I think a lot of covers are made with a rounded top in mind. But those covers are slightly different as they are stretch ones which I think are the only ones suited to those chairs.
