Living Favours

Poppy14, 8 December, 2012 at 17:52 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hello!

I'm thinking of growing our favours, possibly lavendar, basil or pansies, or a combination of the three.

Bit like this -

What do you think?

Do you think it will go down well with the guests?

I'm hoping they will double up as table decoartions as well ?

I grew herbs and chilli plants in tiny buckets for my favours, they got a really good response. Most of them were taken home and a few of them are still growing! It's a more useful favour then some of the stuff I've ended up taking home. I mean, wine charms may look nice but am I ever going to use them? No.

Living plants, esp herbs are a great idea. I'd certainly take it home from the wedding.

My worry would be getting them to a nice size, at the correct time for the wedding. If you have a greenhouse & an area big enough to hold ALL the little pots & keep them watered, then why not?

I think they look lovely and are a nice idea, but if I was a guest I know i'd probably forget to take it at the end of the night.

It's not the sort of thing you can just slip in your bag and carry around with you, so after a drink or two there would be zero chance of me remembering.

I think if you were going to do it, it might be an idea to collect them all up after the meal and have a table or something by the exit with them all on so people will go past them and (hopefully) remember them as they leave?

    Hmm, didn't think about that.

Maybe a table is a good idea.

I could maybe double up and have a card and favour table.

Teal - We are getting married in April 2014 so I am having a pratice run this year as to when to plant them.

    Thanks Laura.

Did people take them from the tables or did you have somewhere to put them until your guests left?

I'd also provide carrier bags or something for guests to carry the pots home in, because if they fell over in a car/taxi, the dirt would go everywhere.

No they just carried them. I don't think it was a problem.

    Thanks!

I'll just make sure there is space somewhere if the guests want to leave them safe until they leave.

One of our brides did this with little plants and they doubled as table place settings instead of the usual cards. Their reception was held somewhere called the Kitchen Garden Cafe so it fitted perfectly! I think its a great idea.

I think this is a lovely idea! Although as the other girls said, I can imagine sitting down to eat and thinking oooo what a lovely idea, I'll pop that in the kitchen, conservatory etc when I get home, then after a couple of vinos leaving it somewhere like the toilets!! I think a small table by the door is a great solution, maybe with brown paper bags to go with the rustic/organic look of the favours? If you have a member of the bridal party who isn't drinking/ doesn't like to drink, perhaps ask them to hand them out as people leave? That way none get left behind!

    Thanks Becky.

I think I am going to do that, sounds like the best way to make sure they are all safe!

Thats a lovely idea. We are having herbs as our table centre pieces, each table is then named after that herb!! We love gardening and have an allotment so that is really 'us'!! LOL! Have found a great company called the norfolk herb company https://www.norfolkherbs.co.uk/ this is where we are getting ours from as they need to be a substantial size.
