Living in a gf/basement flat(Bristol)

Sunny Day, 23 October, 2008 at 20:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Does anyone here live in a gf/basement flat?

We are looking for a place to rent in Bristol and a lot of the places are converted old terraced houses into flats. I've always had a thing about feeling safe at home and sleeping dsownstairs scares me for some silly reason!

So whats it like? I think its an ok area

My friend lives in a ground floor flat in bristol and has never had any problems. When i've stayed over i've actually forgotten it's on a busy road as you can't hear the traffic from her flat. Plus she gets sole use of the garden which is a bonus!!

We used to live in a garden flat in Clifton. It was mostly OK, but the main problem was that the house above wasn't split into separate flats, and was home to 10 2nd year biology students. All boys. Their living room was above our bedroom, and they were pretty noisy. And occasionally things "fell" out of their windows and landed in our garden. Make sure you don't have a housefull of students above you and you will be fine...

    Thanks both!

The flat we are seeing is in Southville, will check who the neighbours are!

I work right in town so living there would be fab for getting to work, a few people at work live there and said its nice, and its definalty an up and coming area now.

I'm stupid but I worry about being safe in the house and being burgled etc, I know it happens everywhere though!

No, I think weird is pretty accurate, and fairly polite, given the circumstances.... ?

? Hilda is a very polite slug!

Southville is a pretty good area and I wouldn't worry too much about ground floor as long as you have good window locks etc. Whereabouts? <nosey>

Sorry Im late back to this, thanks for you replies.

We have found somewhere, its a ground floor flat in Stackpool Road. Its really big and has nice high ceilings, and being on the ground floor wont be as sacry as I thought!

Is Stackpool Road OK? There was plenty of people walking about and families, so hopefully its no the dodgiest street in Southville!!

Stackpool road is cool. Very short walk into town. My only problem with it is the parking as it's a very busy road and there are quite few flats there but that seems to be a problem with most areas of Southville now.

Basically though, no it's not a dodgy area at all. Hope you like it there.

    Phew, thanks!

I'm glad it close to town so I can walk to work!

Did look at the parking, but like you said its like that as noone has a driveway, oh well, I'll cope!
