Loch Ness for the day.

Buttons, 8 April, 2008 at 10:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

BIL has asked that during his visit in May that we go to Loch Ness for the day. Now we live in Falkirk so Loch Ness is not like 30 mins drive away. More like a 4 hour drive. Is it worth going for just the day or finding a nice B&B and staying the night going home the next day?

We're in Edinburgh and wouldn't try it, we'd stay overnight.

When we were at Uni we did a day trip to Loch Ness from Stirling which was fine but then we were young and silly and over enthusiastic! I wouldn't do it now tbh!

I would get a B+B and have a few days up north - you could even dander down the Moray coast on the way home

(where in Falkirk are you? I live very close to Falkirk these days!)

I would go for a B&B. It's a bit far to drive there and back, whereas if you stayed over you could find somewhere nice for dinner, and have a relaxing day.

When we had a french exchange student staying with us, they went from Musselburgh for a day and it was a killer. 4 hours there and 4 back which only left an hour or two there. They also didn't like the fact they didn't see Nessie. ?

There are so many lovely lochs which are closer, I'd go to one of them. I think Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel are about 2 hours away and are stunning.

Does it have to be Loch Ness specifically? If not, what about Loch Lomond - that's much nearer to you.

Hello all my fellow Falkirk (ish) people! ?

I go to Loch Ness quite a lot as I absolutely love it up there, absolutely gorgrous scenery etc etc. I would definitely recommend getting a B&B while up there.

There is a lovely one on the Foyers side of Loch Ness, the food is amazing and the hosts are soooo friendly that the OH and I won't go anywhere else.

Let me know if you need anymore advice, tips etc!

To be honest I drive to Inverness from Edinburgh for work on a semi regular basis adn can do the drive in around 3 and a bit hours so from Falkirk you shoudl be about the same (going M9/A9). If you leave at 7am you could be there mid morning and get most of the day to do the sights before driving home in the evening after dinner.

I would do it as a day trip (but a 'whole day' trip).
