London

So I'm ashamed to say that I have never been to the Big City.

H really wants to go and see the Lion King show (bless) so I'm thinking of getting tickets for his birthday in April. If we go down to London early and go to a late show and stay overnight what should I do/see in the spare time?

Bearing in mind that this will probably the first and last time that I manage to drag H down there.

We're only an hour away by train, so would usually do it in a day, so afternoon showing would be good for that. But a night away is fab also.

I would suggest a whole weekend, running round with a map/camera hanging around your neck/wearing a tall Union Jack hat shouting LONDON BABY! all the time, ala Joey.

Well I guess I should see the things in London that everyone 'has' to see.

But I don't know what they are ?

This could be a whole other thread...

I think I will need one Flow. When we went to Amsterdam last month I spent the whole time walking around trying to find the red light district and failed! I'm convinced it's all a myth.

You haven't mentioned the Queen! I must see Lizzie!

That reminds me, I must write to her beforehand to remind her that I don't like cucumber, do you think she'll swap my sarnies for cheese ones?

Well I was hoping I could just get the bus rather than the tube?

Whenever I've seen the tube on EastEnders and stuff, it looks a little scary.

Covent Garden - shopping and street entertainers (and just a stones throw away from 'Theatre Land')
Go to the Punch and Judy's pub and watch the entertainers from the balcony. Fab, although the door is v hard to find!

Tube not at all scary, just look like you know what you're doing

    The bus is worse!

I hate tube ditherers. I huff loudly at them and thier maps trying to decide if they want northbound or southbound. **is an excellent ex- London commuter**

I actually don't own any concealer. Shame really as I could have done with some this week to camouflage the humongous boil on my nose.

I'd go for a trip on the Thames - one of the ones that goes from the embankment with a commentator - either that or the open topped bus, so you get to find out more of the history and such. London from the Thames is one of the things that makes it feel different from every other city in the UK, in my opinion. I really don't understand why anyone would want to do Oxford Street - it's just like any other shopping street, only busier, in my opinion!

If you want a really nice hotel, the Grosvenor, which is right on top of Victoria Station, is lovely, and very convenient for everything. Haggle if they offer you a room upgrade - we got a deluxe room, breakfast and cocktail vouchers for an extra £35.

Postman's Park on Little Britain (yep, really is a street name). it;s got plaques onthe wall commemorating brave deeds by ordinary people... you know the sort of thing.."Little Jimmy who died saving his tiny sister from dreadful scalding water hurled out of a window by a recalcitrant chambermaid".....

As long as I know she's associated with you. I shall tell my aunt and uncle not to worry about her and that she poses them no immediate threat. ?
