London help. North Acton

Sunset21, 21 July, 2009 at 14:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I'm just looking at hotel prices for visiting london with an overnight stay, I haven't run it past MrSun yet, just getting an idea of costs. The hotel i'm looking at is by North Acton station - can you get to places such as the Natural History Museum/Science museum direct from that station? What sort of area is it?

Sorry for being a dunce, i've been to London very little in my lifetime and it's usually been with organised coach parties.

Hey lovely, I don't think it is the nicest area and it's at least half an hour on the tube from the museums etc. I would go for somewhere in Kensington if you can - there are usually some good deals.

It's on the central line so good for access to 'proper London' but the area is a dive. The hotel would be near the hanger lane gyratory on either the A40 or North Circ which are both big, busy roads at all times of the day and night. There's nowhere you could walk to for food/drinks etc.

Actually it's not on the hanger lane gryratory. That would be hanger lane stn. Doh. It's on the A40 though. The hotel doesn't look that bad from the outside but there's still not much in the area. There is an amusement arcade/bowling place/cinema across the road.

Hmm, thanks guys, i'll keep looking. Kensington sounds expensive. We were talking £50 per room for the Holiday Inn.

It's the last place I'd stay TBH. Bit grotty, mainly residential or else warehouses and huge roads. I would try to find somewhere more central if you can.

When are you looking at coming to Londontown Sunset21? Have you tried Hotelclub.co.uk? They quite often have some good deals.

Acton is horrid and quite far out, as everyone else has said. I used to live in White City (also horrid).

Isn't there a holiday inn or something? Laterooms often discount wuite boutiquey places, I think. Jury's are good value budget; there's one at Islington

Humph I used to live in Acton Green and White City, I think i am offended ?

I agree with the others if you look on hotels.com they usually have good priced late rooms. Unless you know the area then I wouldn;t stay in Acton.

Of course, this is now home to the Westgate Shopping Centre....quite an upmarket venture. They banned shops like Primark and eateries like McDonalds as they were deemed too low image for their centre.

    It's Westfield's Shopping Centre.

I'm born and bred Shepherd's Bush/East Acton and, as much as I love it, I can see why you'd not want to holiday there!
