london lunch- party of 17, where?

Hi all,

Not a regular poster but am stumped trying to find a suitable restaurant for a team do in late November. We are having a private tour of the Rothko exhibition at the Tate Modern in the morning then need a suitably lovely lunch following.

Ican't seem to find a location that is not too far from the gallery that will seat 17 and has a decent menu. Oxo tower was an idea, but they are into christmas menus then ad charge double the price for food we don't particularly want. Smiths of Smithfield was another contender (prepared to travel little furtehr out) ut they insist on us hiring the orivate room and we all have to have the sane food, so with two veggies they insist upon a totally veggie menu which just doesn't seem right for a place like that!

so my brief is, restaurant that can seat us all (two tables fine), where we have a choice of food, not too far from Tate Modern, and budget of around £30 per head for lunch. although less would be good as more to add to alcohol fund! Team of mixed ages from 22-50, eclectic tastes and likely to make a bit of noise.

can anyone help?

Black & Blue Steakhouse in Borough Market? It's quite funky. http://www.blackandbluerestaurants.com/restaurants/index.html

    Blue Print Cafe https://conranandpartners.com/index.php/work/interior/restaurants/conran/blueprint

I had a group dinner (30+ people) at Northbank restaurant directly opposite Tate Modern, just walk across the wobbly bridge.

Thanks all. had been perusing the Borough restaurants. i've eaten in Brindisa and Black and Blue before and like both so will enquire about large tables.

If you're happy with travelling to Smiths the The Larder and Portal on St Johns Street are both super. If you like the idea of a Smiths type experience then there's always the Bleeding Heart as well.

Ramdom aside but I had breakfast at Smiths this morning, their waffles with cream and banana are really out of this world....I'd suggest it to everyone and anyone.

Have you had a look at squaremeal.co.uk? I've found them pretty spot on with their recommendations.

I'd say walk round the corner to Vinopolis - http://www.cantinavinopolis.com/menus/setmenuparties.pdf

or I would get on the Thames Clipper (outside Tate) & go to Gaucho Canary Wharf (lots of other choices there too)

Squaremeal was seeming a little random with their selections.

ave been meaning to try the Larder myself. is it really good?

And i'm not london based, just work there 1-3 days a week and never have time for leisurely breakfasts but that dish has me drooling and iI might have to start doing the breakfast meeting thing as opposed to lunch!

    Gaucho is a good call.

Cantina doing the annoying Christmas menu for twice the price thing so no go for this time round. our christmas do is late december so don't want to feel in anyway festive. far too early!

The Larder is good, we used to live opposite it and I've always had a great experience with the food but service can be patchy.

Portal (just opposite) is really lovely, their grilled rib of beef for two is one of my favourite beef dishes in London (so far) and they take very good care of you.

The waffles at Smiths are worth a breakfast meeting, I promise.

Also - Chop House or Pont at Butler Wharf.

    Tower 42

I think Coq D'argent is Christmas in Nov too, but maybe wrong.

I would shove them on the Thames Clipper give them champers & get off at Canary Wharf
