London restaurant recommendations needed

Ofeelia, 20 October, 2008 at 11:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

We're off to London next month and having not been for a long time I'm after some restaurant recommendations.

For the first night we'd like somewhere fancy, no budget and any cuisine other than French. We're staying near Hyde Park but happy to get a taxi.

The second night we're going to see Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych Theatre so would like somewhere within walking distance from there so that we can walk, nothing too fancy that night.

Is that too vague?

Any help would be much appreciated.

This place is in Covent Garden and walkable from the Aldwych. We had a fab meal there in Sept

    I'd second Lois' suggestion-

For the first night how about petrus? its on hyde park corner, in the Berkley hotel. You could probably get a table if you are Ok eating at their last sitting (10) and who knows, maybe in these credit crunching times its not that busy anyway. Its beyond fabulous. You can while away some time in the Blue bar at the berkley first, it has fab cocktails.

There is a wicked Russian resturant nearby too, but not sure if you'd be in the mood for eating with maudlin russians consuming death defying amount of vodka? food excellent though.

Yebbut the OP doesn't want French. It would have been my recommendation as well though (although it's not called Petrus anymore, think it's the imaginatively entitled 'Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley Hotel now' ?

Re first night - Petrus (now known as Marcus Wareing) is great but it's kind of French? (Haute Cuisine) Since you're near Hyde Park maybe try Nobu? Just a thought...

? sorry, in my excitement I didn't see that bit!

Kensington roof gardens? I'd call that modern eurpopean. Great views.

Pascha? Gloucester road, fab authentic lebanese- the decor is amazing

the mint leaf? That might be better for your saturday night, as its on haymarket.
