Londoners - Best way to get to the O2?

Fenella Fudge, 13 April, 2009 at 20:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

We're staying in London for 2 nights on Thursday. 1st night we're off to the O2 to see Ac/dc. Just put the postcodes in of our hotel (Hilton Park Lane) to the O2 and its saying about 30mins. We dont really want to drive but do you think that would be the best option? Otherwise its taxi or underground? Does the underground still run at about 11pm? Would it cost a fortune in a taxi?

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks.

The Jubilee Line is how I get there (from Waterloo) to North Greenwich station but depends which is your nearest underground station/line and how many changes it would entail. I think Tube runs til midnight pretty much. Parking is quite pricey I believe plus driving in London can be a nightmare if you don't know where you're going!

Honestly, I'd say you would be mad to take a taxi there - not because of cost but being stuck in traffic! The Jubilee Line from Green Park will take no time at all, it's so straight forward.

Getting home will be really simple too - the jubilee line runs until about 11.45, poss a little later - I know we've left the O2 around 11 and had a few drinks in the bar and still got the tube home.

If you do take a taxi I'd say you're looking at about £30 each way x

    Thanks for the replies....big help.

Just had a look at the map and can see its the grey line (sorry us Northerners arent use to tubes!)

How long does it take from Green Park to the O2? And I know this sounds really girlie but is it safe at night? I mean we're not going to look for trouble or anything but it doesnt turn into a death ride after 11pm ?

The grey line is the Jubilee line which is the one you want - I reckon it'll take about 25 minutes to get to the O2, maybe 30. One of the advantages is you could jump off at Canary Wharf (one stop before the O2) and grab a bite to eat etc. rather than queue forever at the O2.

I've travelled back on the tube from the O2 a few times on my own and have always felt safe - it's the main route back into London and so the tubes tend to be jam packed after a show.

    Have fun!!

Jubilee line to north greenwich. the station is right at the 02. Perfectly safe.

I just had a look at the TFL journey planner for you to check last Tube times and it's saying the last direct one on Thursday is at about 11.15. It takes 18 minutes to get to Green Park. After that it's a combo of buses/trains etc and takes a lot longer.
