I have a quick flick through each in a book shop first.

I much prefer to the rough guide for Thailand's Beaches and Islands than the lonely planet one.

Lonely Planet for me, every time. Another reasonable guidebook I quite like is DK, as those have lots of colourful pictures! ?

I always go for the Time Out guides - do they have one for Washington DC?

    ?

I would normally get both. I usually find RG is better as a read in itself and LP better for easy reference and more comprehensive listings. So it depends what exactly you want from it.

If you look on Amazon you might find they'll do a good combined offer.

They do. Looks like i'm going to have to go to an actual shop rather than shop in the comfort of my office ?

    Thanks all.

I thought I'd come back to this after spotting our copies of 'Newcomer's Handbook for Minnepolis' and 'for the USA' on the shelf. I had a quick look at the back, and they do one for Washington DC. It's for people moving to the area, rather than a tourist guide, so you may find it handy along side the other(s).
