Long Lasting Make Up Help!

Umbrellacademic, 22 September, 2009 at 18:00 Posted on Planning 0 9

Have tried to post this 3 times so apologies if it's popped up more than once!

My budget is pretty small and there is no room for a make up artist on the day. So I need your help ladies! What make up would you suggest that will give me a flawless (!) subtle look on the big day? I need it to be fairly natural but will good coverage and be able to last through my wedding day, looking great in all 4 of my venues.

Your product suggestions/hints and tips would be most welcome! Normally I wear a high street chemist cheap foundation, with a little powder and lipstick - I have only started wearing make up the last year so have been a bit wary!

Thanks

I can highly recommend Estee Lauder Double Day Wear Foundation - I put mine on at 0630 every morning and it still looks good late in the evening.

Can I recommend Bourgeois to you....made by Chanel (I didn't know that for ages) gives good longevity and good price. Their 10 hour sleep effect foundation is ace. Eye shadows fab, the multi sets are very good. Powder is good too.

For a primer try the body shop vitamin e spray, sounds odd but does really work. Also you can use as a make up setter and if you get hot spray it too!

Mascara, try again some of the body shop ones they are good. Or a max factor brand.

I have found Maybelline is a good concealer, nice and light.

for lips, try the max factor stain thing (can't remember the name sorry!) with the lip balm bit for just making your lips look luscious.

Blushers, I would maybe splurge on this to be honest and use a gorgeous Clinique one.

Eye liner (if you wear) Natural collection for me are lovely.

I am an almost trained make up artist so any issues let me know always happy to help. If you are down south pm me I can always make time for make up shopping/helping for no pennies (I love getting the practice in!)

    Hiya

I only put the full slap on for special occasions, concerning foundation, and Ive got to say that I second the estee lauder double wear - fabulous stuff. Its light and it last for hours, i cant stand the feeling of thick make-up on my face, and the coverage is flawless.

I wore it to work one day and I keep checking out my face in the rear view mirror because I couldnt believe how great my skin looked ha!!Will defo be wearing it on my big day, i went into boots, debenhams and dingles and got 10 day samples in each before I bought the full size one.

My friend swears by their eyeshadow colour base which she says stays on all day - so I will be investing in some of that as well.

As mascaras go, ive tried the chanels and lancomes and feel they are not as good as the maybellines which are half the price!

I could talk about make-up for hours!!

    Hope this helps

Foundation - Estee Lauder Double Wear

    Powder - MAC Blotting Powder

Concealer - Benefits Boing (be wary of light refelctive concealers such as Touche Eclat as they can give you panda eyes in photos)

Mascara - No 7 Intense Volume Waterproof

Lips - Body Shop Lipstain, followed by No 7 Perfect Wear Lipstick

Cannot recommend the foundation or mascara enough.

I'm not an expert on make-up and only wear it when I am going out.

But I use mineral foundation by bare essentuals. It is fab and you can apply it as light or as heavy as you like. It is really easy to apply and touch up.

    Hi,

It all really depends on your skin typs.

Firstly use a primer as this helps your makeup stay put all day. For oily skin YSL Matt Touch, normal/combination then Laura Mercier and for dry skin Laura Mercier Hydrating.

Foundation: Clinique are very good as their foundation feels nice and light but gives great coverage. However for oily skin Estee Lauder Double Wear is great but I find it too drying on normal or dry skin. For normal or dry skin I use Clinique Super balanced.

Concealor: MAC Concealor or Clinique Line Smoothing concealor.

Powder: For oily skin MAC Blotting Powder and for normal/dry skin MAC loose powder. Your better using loose powder as it stops your makeup being and feeling cakey.

Eyeshadows: MAC eyeshadows are great as you don't need to use to much to get a decent colour. Use a primer underneath your eyeshadow as this helps it stays on and stops creases. MAC Prep and Prime Eye is great. MAC eyeliners are good too as they don't budge.

Mascara: Max Factor Masterpiece in Waterproof.

Blusher and lipstick I use all sorts.

I'd like to fourth/fifth the suggestion for estee lauder double wear - i wear the light version which stays put all day, especially when applied with a brush. i have quite oily skin so it works perfectly for me (especially when i wear a primer) like kelly29 (who i got the recommendation from - thanks chick!), i cannot recommend it enough. it has transformed my make up bag (and i am a make up junkie)

i like maybelline super stay lipstick - get the one with the balm on the end, not the gloss. it is brilliant - lasts for hours and hours and i don't find it drying.

i like l'oreal for mascara - i used extreme collagene waterproof in smoky black.

eyeshadow - mac everytime. or stila do nice shimmery colours.

DO invest in your wedding make up - it is worth it as its an investment and will last for AGES after the wedding.

Seems like there are a few Estee Lauder girlies on here! I can't recommend it enough and I've used nothing else but for the last 25 years - their concealer is magnificent and lasts forever as is their powder, blusher, anti wrinkle creams, foam wash, lip liner, lippy (need I go on LOL!) The only product I dislike of theirs is their Magnascopic Mascara (although my daughter won't wear anything else - I converted her from a Mac addict) For me personally, it's too clumpy so I wear Clinique wash off mascara instead.
