Long very thin and fine hair options!

BrideHannahB, 24 February, 2009 at 08:39 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi All,

As the post says, I have long hair but hardly anything of it and its really fine. I really wanted to put it up on the wedding day but think it could look ridiculous as I really don't have enough of it to make it look nice. I was considering those one day extensions to thicken it but not sure if they are something you use for having your hair down rather than up? Or whether I need to consider proper hair extensions, but then I'm worried they might rip my hair out as they are glued in. As I don't have much to start with I'd be worried about losing any!

Is anyone else in a similar position and what are you going to do?

Thanks!

I have very fine / fluffy hair which doesn't stay in up-dos very well. I've decided for my wedding day to have a low bun, as then I won't have to worry about fighting gravity. I don't really have enough hair for it though, as mine is only just past my shoulders, so I'm having extensions just clipped in for the day to bulk out the bun.

Im in ther same position as you and im thinking of extensions, but rather than long clip ins im thinking of 1s that are alreay made in a style, so you would put your hair in a pony and attach them over the top. for example these on this website, sure you can find some in shops somewhere but i havnt looked yet. its just an option and you could probly put it in yourself therefore saving you a few quid on hairdresser.

Wow, they look very interesting! I've also got quite fine hair that I struggle to style so these look just the business. The only thing that concerns me is how do you get the correct match to your hair? Would it be a case of buying the closest colour and then dying your original hair to match?

Sorry, I am such a novice when it comes to girly stuff like this!!

My hair is the same, I wore my hair down and curled on my wedding day with clip in extentions. My hairdresser said it would work for an up do as well though so I think that would work.

Here is a pic of how it looked, I bought the extensions from Sally's and the lady there helped me to match the colour.

on that particular website and some others you can order a colour ring where they send you samples of the hair and then match the closest 1 to your colour. usually the ends of your hair as these are often a lil bit lighter. although if you have a local wig shop they may have these sort of things there, i know theres a shop near me that does wigs and clip in hairpieces. the thing that concerns me about the clip in long straight 1s is that because my hair is so fine they slip out and the clips dont hold them properly( i already have some of these) but with the updos i dont see that being a problem. if you did want to buy these online iv found quite a few sites that do these now after much googling so i can send them over to you if needed x

My bm has bought the Glam it up Hairpiece (not for the wedding just for fun) and it's amazing how it works. I considered extensions but I don't want to not look like me and I've never had long hair so didn't see the point in ending up totally different for the day. I would like extensions to thicken my hair out but have just decided to wear my hair all down as that suits me best.

Wow those clip in ones look great! Think I'll have to have words with a hairdresser and see what they think, I'd be more than happy if I could get my hair looking like that though!

    Thanks for your help everyone!

Whatever you do, trial it beforehand, at least once.

I had my curled and it usually doesn't stay in, so in March I got it trialed, I sat so still all day and did nothing and guess what it stuck! But on your wedding day, you get very hot and flustered, constantly being hugged, your veil adds to the weight on your hair. My fell out after the church service and I was left with odd looking hair (like I'd not even bothered) for the photos. By the evening, I like it again as it was straight at the middle and a little flicked at the ends.

    The evening

Basically, I had three hairstyles! hehehe. I was so disappointed but hey ho, I knew the fate of my hair once it is curled. With heinsight I would have had something different - like this... http://teamsugar.com/files/images/File0431.jpg

I'm a MOH in 2011 and I've already warned the bride not to curl my hair as it won't work.
