Longshot - lost passport - any ideas of what to do?

Marmite, 31 July, 2008 at 22:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I don't know if anyone can help at all? My best friends and her boyfriend are due to fly to Turkey on holiday tomorrow evening and he has lost his passport - their whole house has been turned upside down at least three times, including the loft! Also he has checked their cars, his office etc and anywhere else he thinks it could be. Obviously they are upset as they may not get to go away - any ideas what they can do? I am guessing obviously that no passport means no holiday and the passport office have basically said so. I know it's probably a silly question, but maybe someone here has been in the same situation and can offer advice. The will have to pay the full hoilday cost if they cancel and have already enquired about this. It was paid on Barclaycard and they have said they may be able to help.

Thanks all.

Can he go to the passport office and getan emergency passport? He'll probably have to queue for ages, but they can issue last minute passports.

Or, can his girlfriend fly out as planned and he could join her a few days later when he's sorted his passport out. I certainly wouldn't miss out on my holiday cos my wally of a bpyfriend had misplaced his passport.

There is no way at all that he can travel outside of the country without a passport, so he needs to speak to the passport office and see what they can do for him. He also needs to report his passport lost/stolen I believe.

Tell her to tell him to look in the bag he used last time they used passport.

Happened to my mate this year, four passports ! Turned out they were in the baby travel bag they'd been using and had packed away out of sight.

Does he know where he used it last?

Passport office were on strike for 3 days last week, so there is a back log of emergency ones at present being issued.

they have said before, and throughout the strike, and afterwards, that anyone who needs a passport same day would be accomodated on said day

You can't generally go down to the passport office for the same-day service if you've lost your passport, that's for renewals. You can still do the one-week service, I think.

Whether or not they can get anything back on the insurance in these circs totally depends on their insurance company. I would think it pretty unlikely in the case of a lost rather than stolen passport. What he/they can do is get the tax for their flights back if they haven't actually flown, but I know that's pretty cold comfort!
