Look what I bought today

Not the best pic but these are our centrepieces. Seven different types of herbs - oregano, sage, thyme, lemon balm, parsley, rosemary and mint - which we'll plant in terracotta pots. One for each table, and the table will be named after its matching herb.

What do you think? Not too late to come up with a plan B if it's a rubbish idea!

Thanks ladies. I'm not massively wild about the parsley - something else with a scent would have been better - but the only other option was lavender, which I don't norally think of as a herb, so we weren't sure about that! I may change my mind yet though.

They were an absolute bargain too, 3 pots for £10 plus with our member card thing for the garden centre we got an extra £6 off. For 7 herbs, 7 pots, 7 suacers and a massive bag of compost we spent £38. Floral centrepieces were included in our venue costs but we weren't keen on the style so got £1.50 per head knocked off by agreeing to do our own. With 60 guests, that's £90, so we've saved a decent amount there.

Although there is the risk that the cat will eat them when we're not looking, so we may have to buy replacements...

I love this idea! So original. Are you going to decorate the pots with ribbon in your colour scheme or anything?

The plan is to put a band of ribbon around each pot but I haven't found any in the right colours yet - I want half in midnight blue and half in a dark pinky colour. Tomorrow morning we are plaaning a massive internet trawl for all the last few bits and pieces so hopefully will find some then!

Sammyjay, how is your planning going? Only 4 weeks, how scary is that?! We have spent all day going "Eek, this time next month we'll be married!".

Love your centrepieces. Plus if you keep them, you'll be able to remember your wedding everytime you cook with your herbs.

Love the idea! We are having fresh potted flowers in wicker baskets - like the potted idea as guests can take them away after. You have missed off my favourite herb which smells amazing if you want to swap the parsley - Basil ?? x

    Lovely idea.

I'd stick with the parsley - it's a great breath-freshener so I'd probably be pinching bits off it to eat after the meal!

Thanks aecy, those menu templates are such a good idea. Will bookmark that, definitely.

sara.jo, basil is my favourite too but they didn't have any at the garden centre. We are keeping eye on the parsley as of all of them, it looks the least robust, so if it keels over in the next couple of weeks I will be straight down the supermarket seeking a basil replacement!

AC, I hadn't thought of that!
