Looking for... a more up-beat and well-known love song

Kentish Gal, 28 November, 2012 at 14:48 Posted on Planning 0 40

... to be sung during our ceremony.

Current shortlist:

It Must Be Love - Madness

Happy Together - The Turtles

You're My Best Friend - Queen

Not Bruno Mars, not I Got You Babe, not All You Need Is Love.

All brainwaves welcome Smiley smile

How about "Are you ready for love" by Elton John? We're considering that for our first dance cos we don't want anything too soppy!

Not keen on that one, not fast enough, and the words don't feel quite right, because clearly we are (ready for love)! Smiley laugh

    Hence the 'yes I am'

I'm looking for something similar for an aisle song. The one I keep coming back to is Mr Blue Sky but I think it would sound ridiculous in February! The little how is the weather' line in Happy Together might work well though. I like God Only Knows too but don't think it would be allowed in a civil ceremony.

Taio Cruz - No other one

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-Ze9IldfvU

I know its not that well known but i like to hear more modern songs at weddings. Older songs are done to death (in my opinion)

Thats why we are having The Courteeners 'Take over the world' as out first dance song Smiley smile

I'm cringing at the thought of someone singing I Got You Babe! Although I am having Bruno Mars Marry You straight after the 1st dance (which is Baby I Love You) so I can't judge, haha.

Ah, I can't see my 74 yr old FIL-to-be enjoying singing to that one Smiley smile

It's actually for us to sing as a group which rules out a fair few. I LOVE the Jack Johnson one, but I am not sure it's for the whole group.

What do you think about these?

Love Cats - The Cure (EDIT: just seen it's to sing as a group - not sure that would be right for that but will leave in anyway)

Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra

    L.O.V.E - Nat King Cole

Aaand, something which is a bit mid-tempo ...

Just The Way You Are - Billy Joel (might sound a bit cheesy but I loves it)

Ah if you're looking for something everyone knows you might have to stay safe and go with something like the Madness one. I 'know' the others but not by the titles (had to youtube them) so might have a bit of a slow start while everyone catches up with how the song goes otherwise. Or maybe that's just me?

My friend did a group song, she had "here's to us" she had the glee version cuz the other is a bit explicit though. Not everyone knew it but I've never seen anything work so well, it proper bought us together as a group and got everyone on the dance floor. Was an amazing moment

    What about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_r_2KRUvis

Can't take my eyes off of you- Andy Williams (there are various covers too)

Slower to start then picks up, I think everyone knows it when they hear it too

    Hi Kentish Gal,

We have loads of wedding songs available for you to browse through in our wedding songs section - https://www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-songs/

You might be able to get some inspiration there!

And for what it's worth, I love 'All You Need is Love' by the Beatles, or 'Only Love' by Ben Howard.

Love it, but this will be slap-bang in the middle of the ceremony so I am am kind of holding out for something more couple-centric. And my OH is choosing a piece of music to play whilst the rings are being passed around, and I think there's a lot of 'she's so beautiful' type lyrics (swoon), so I can't hijack this one too!

I've seen the songs section, but this is for everyone to get up and sing in a humanist, informal ceremony and I didn't see many I thought fitted. I'm going to google Only Love now. Smiley smile

Ha ha we totally had Bruno Mars too! We had Don't Wanna Miss a Thing as our first dance and I had been thinking for ages of a song that would tie in with the love/marriage theme but also be more upbeat for the party to start... this was a spur of the moment decision at the beginning of the night and I loved it! Fitted in perfectly!

But then we also had Gangnam Style later in the evening so I can't talk! It was the most requested song of the wedding and you've never seen a dance floor fill so quickly!

This could be a good idea. We had it walking back down the aisle, but you could have it Love Actually style - they make it upbeat and exciting!

No its not well known, but it worked for us. I think of you have a close knit group of friends or family its nice to celebrate that a little too. After all they'll be there for the highs and lows of your marriage :-) you will know when you find your song. Good luck in your search.

It actually was! The only shame is that everybody was dancing so we got no photos of my 62 year old dad and 60 year old mum dancing away like loonies! Also I had a huge dress so the more I galloped, the more my dress went in waves around me... hilarious!

Not sure if its upbeat enough but 'My Girl' is a song everyone can have a good sing along to, I want to include it in our ceremony somewhere.

I'm A Believer doesn't FEEL like a love song to me personally.

My Girl is a great choice, but there's a really moody, beautiful track dedicated to me from him so I wanted something 'marriage' or 'love' or 'couple' focused Smiley smile
