Looking for a venue

lou4gaz, 3 January, 2010 at 22:03 Posted on Planning 0 10

We are currently looking for a venue for our sit down meal and evening reception. Due to the location of our chosen church, we're kinda limited and have only found 1 venue within 3 miles of the church. Does anyone know how far a horse and carriage can travel?

I know it's not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket but what if we can't find another venue close enough? We don't really want to book the venue having only seen one (although it does look lovely).

Thanks. Our main concern is that the venue looks quite expensive. The only prices on the website are for their 'premium hire' wedding packages and are £120 per head and have a minimum of 100 guests. However, they do say they welcome smaller weddings but have no prices online.

We're getting married just outside Ormskirk which is in Lancashire. I have the number of a horse and carriage company so will phone them tomorrow to see how far the horse can go.

We only looked at one venue too.

I'd say phone them up and enquire on prices to get a rough idea, then go and visit them and look around. I don't think you need to worry too much about only looking at one place. You'll know when you see it whether it is right for you and of course in your budget, etc.

    Good luck!

Thanks. We have got an appointment to see the venue on Tuesday and we're both really excited about it. It seems ideal. We've gone through their normal 'function' price list and worked out a rough cost from that but will give them a ring tomorrow.

I enquired about horses for mine and the average journey per day was coming out at around 12 miles, they average 1 mile every 10 minutes so we had to bear this in mind - my journey is going to be around 40 minutes each way as we are 4 miles away from the Church.

    Hope that helps x

Thanks, that's a great help. We think the venue we're going to view will be 'the venue' and it's about 3 miles from the church so half an hour sounds good Smiley smile

I thought it would be an ideal time to chill out with daddy on the way there and spend some quality time with hubby and a bottle of champers on the way back!

    Plus the horses look lovely!!!
