Looking younger

WelshSam, 15 May, 2015 at 17:11 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 35

I'm 26 next month and everytime i tell someone my age, they are really surprised and say I look a lot younger. People have said i look around 17, 18. I don't feel this is a bad thing as hopefully when I am in my 40's i will still pass for a lot younger. I don't wear hardly any makeup so that's probably why. Some people wear make up and look a lot older with it. I keep getting the impression though that it's a bad thing when people say it??

Anyone else here look younger their age? I'm not prepared to start layering on the make up in the hope of looking older. I like harldlywearing any and thankfully I can get away with it too. I have 2 children aswell which really surprises people too.

I'm 30 but most people think Im around 25.

they usually say "oh I thought you were much younger than that" and i wonder if they are just talking about how I look, or my youthful spirit lol. Are they politely trying to tell me I'm immature??

Don't layer on the make up. so damaging to your skin. Day to day I wear nothing, only if I'm going out or feel I look super tired.

I hope they're not thinking I'm immature, I'm far from it. But looking as young as I do, I do feel people take me less seriously. People assume I'm 18... With a 2 year old and 6 year old in tow which probably looks awful. Lol

I'm 34 and people tend to assume I'm the same age as my best friend who is 26. I'm not arguing!

I've got 2 younger sisters (31 and 28) and if people see us all together they think I'm the youngest.

When I posted my wedding report, lots of the comments were on how I don't look 40, so I guess that's good! I think (hope) I look more like early 30s. I have good genes, but I think being v careful with sunscreen, not smoking and being vegan have helped. (Before I was married I always used to add "sleeping with younger men", lol. My H is younger than me, he just doesn't find that funny for some reason!) Sometimes I feel like it works against me, cos I look "too young" to have arthritis and people don't take it seriously, but generally I'm very glad.

I went to my sons yr 6 parents evening, and met his teacher for the first time, she asked if our Mum would be attending.

When I took him to Scouts, I got mistaken for his sister again. (I'm 29, he's 11)

I guess the fact I wear a lot of "childish" clothes can make me look younger. I'm 30 in July, and having a Hello Kitty themed party, haha.

I am 33 and still get ID when I try to buy booze, I have always looked after my skin so I take it as a compliment x

I am 32 and often get mistaken for my sister's younger sister. She is 29.

Everyone thinks my mum looks great for her age so I hope that rubs off on me. She is 64 but could pass for 20 years younger (in dim light)!

I'm very jealous! From the age of around 12 I have been mistaken for older than I am. I'm hoping I'll stop aging soon and stay looking 30 odd for 20yrs !!

I actually think I look younger with make up on. I hardly ever wear it as I can't be bothered day to day, I only make the effort when I'm out for dinner or a night out.

I don't tend to get ID'd for booze in supermarkets any more but sill get asked occasionally when I'm out drinking. I'm 30 later this year but would like to think I don't look my age

People generally think I look younger too, I'm 31 but I think a lot of people would guess mid-late 20's...or maybe that's my wishful thinking! I get IDed occ when buying wine in supermarket so some people must think I look under 25! It's probably down to my spotty skin-people must think I'm a teenager! Or I'm quite short n small which helps...plus I think I have a fairly cheery youthful type outlook. I don't mind being mistaken for someone younger, it usually means I look less tired and haggard than usual ha, n that's gotta be a good thing!

I turned 31 this week and still get id'd buying cigarettes.

I hardly wear any makeup, and I'm partial to too much sun, booze & fags at times, so it must be good genes!

A couple of weeks ago I got ID'd and the check boy gasped at my ID and said bloody hell you don't look THAT old! I turn 30 next month - I guess I'm officially elderly.

Interesting that so many of us get this. It must be to do with society's perception of what certain ages should look like - I'm finding it hard to express in words without resorting to unpleasant stereotypes, but maybe 40 year olds used to look older than they do now, but our perceptions of how they look haven't caught up with the change. If that makes sense.

One of my friends said they had a similar experience - "That's ANCIENT!"

I always looked younger than my actual age growing up. I think it's balanced out now but did have a couple of comments when I turned 28 that I looked earlier in my 20s.

Haha - I am starting to feel like it has caught up with me and I've run out of youthful vitality which is also a pain in the (wrinkly) neck!

I was gonna post two photos for a comparison exercise, but all my recent ones have filters and stuff on them so it's really not a fair comparison. Anyway, here's me aged 19:

Look at all that hair! God damnit. But yeah, compared to the wedding pics I don't think I look too different now.

Wow ID, look how fresh faced you are! Your hair really suits you like that. I look different in younger pics because I was super skinny and had longer hair

Mrs Shep - I think you are someone who it is quite difficult to put an age on based on your photos. You don't look old by any means though!

For example, on the one you have just posted, you could honestly be anywhere from 15 to 25.

I used to be really jealous of the girls who could pass as older when I was at school. I never could as I was too immature.

Aww, Helen I was an old soul, I think that made a difference. Plus I was one of the first to grow as a kid (second tallest in my class at 11) but then I stopped, and stayed that way! That pic is from my brothers 18th, I was 20. My brother hhas always looked younger than he is, particularly in his early teens, but is finally growing into it now. I was looking for the pic of my standing next to my first car but I can't find it, must be at mum and dads.

Yeah, I wore very little makeup in those days so there's a good chance I don't have any on in that pic. I grew out my fringe when I was a teenager, but had it cut back in about 5 yrs ago cos I have a massive forehead, although the angle of that particular pic doesn't make it look too huge. I would love to have it that long again, although maybe not dyed black!

I'm 63 and people say I look about 40. I have always said if you think old you will be old and I still think, act and do exactly all the same things I did when I was in my 30's. I may feel a bit more tired afterwards than I used to but it doesn't stop me and I refuse to give in to old age!

I remember when I was in my late 30's, I used to work for a travel agent and had a uniform which had a scarf tied around the neck. A salesman knocked on the door one night and I'd just got home from work. He said "Is your Mum or Dad in love" !

    ? Can't be bad!

My best friend is very young looking, though she's the same age as me. She bought a box of chocolates and was asked if they were for her teacher! Wish I got comments like that!

People usually think i'm younger than i am. I went to the local shop about 1 year ago and the man behind the counter commented that it was past 10pm and asked me if my mum had sent me down to buy a few things before i go to bed.

The most ridiculous thing about it was that i was buying a bottle of wine. Errr?

Only last week my world shattered as OH and i were stood by the bus stop and these two teenage girls came up and stood near us. one of them commented to the other that she looked like she could be our daughter. The bloody cheek of it!! i'm only 32!

I'm 26 (nearly 27) but still get ID'd quite often. I act and feel like a teenager, though, so long may that continue!

People usually place my W older - she has good skin and no wrinkles, she just looks more mature - like someone you'd listen to, with knowledge! People usually guess her at late 30's (she's 31)

There was that thing going round recently where you can upload a pic and it guesses your age, it kept guessing me (with different pics) between 25-32 (I'm 36), it was guessing her between 39-47. I uploaded a pic of her when she was 12 and it guessed her at 31!

Hang on ... i'll find the link ...
