lots of questions i need help

laurabailey, 15 January, 2009 at 10:03 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi there

I have been meaning to start posting my questions but now with only 7 months to go i need answers so i am writing all the questions i need help with. if you have any advice or help you can offer me that would be fantatsic! how exciting is planning your own wedding its just the cost that scares me!

My wedding Sage green with hints of dusky pink, 5 bridesmaids, 7 ushers, 2 best men, 2 page boys and 2 flower girls (big family). Church wedding then a marquee in a farmers field so toilets, water, cutlery etc all has to be organised by me & hubby to be. theme is village fete/country rose. we are asking friends to make cakes for a cake bake off rather than a wedding cake and decorating the marquee with lots of bunting, taking place in gloucestershire.

1) FLOWERS - major dilema. i am not a massive fan of floral decs so just getting boquets, I love lily of the valley with green leaves but apparently extremly expensive, i also love tulips but my wedding is in august, i like gerberas and simple things with lots of green leaves and grassy look. I like the idea of ivory florwers with lots of greenry and some pink flowers or feathers etc. only small boquets 2/3 flowers for bridesmaids any ideas? i have no budget for this as a friend has offered to make them so it needs to be cheap and relitively easy to make.

2) ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS - i was considering this, does anyone know of a good shop i can actually walk into and see the flowers to see if i could do this for my boquets. Birmingham, bristol, gloucestershire and surrounding areas or norfolk?

3) FABRIC - i want to buy lots of fabric for the bunting do you know the cheapest place to buy this from?

4) SWEETS - i need to buy lots of pic n mix for the day again do you know the cheapest place to buy this from? also i need to think of a creatiev idea to display them, i would love a real pic n mix stand but cant find a cheap one anywhere? any alternative ideas?

5)TABLE CENTRES AND OTHER TABLE ACCESSORIES - No idea what to do i have a £10 budget for each table, any ideas that will go with the theme that is cheap, i love Topiary trees, confetti sell them but to expensive.

6) WITNESSES - should you buy them a present?

7) MONEY OR GIFT LIST? we are trying to sell our house but cant and we dont want loads of new things that wont fit in there, but my hubby2 b really wants a list. i think money is better then we can buy everything we need when we finally move?

thanks for taking teh time to read this post, any help greatly appreciated! thanks so much

laura

    Hi Welcome to Hitched

I can help with Artificial Flowers & Table centres. I am based in Bristol and there are flowers here for you to see & touch so that you can get some idea of the quality & I put things together for you to look at.

I am also doing another Hitchers wedding in Septemeber with the same colour scheme & Topiary trees as table centres!

Was going to point you in sherries direction for table centres and flowers but i see she has already left you a msg! As for material there are a couple of places in bristol The range is one of them, and then there are some small independant shops too. I cant help with much else, except to say that when i was a witness i wasnt bought a gift, and it didnt even cross my mind.

Hi, I lve the sound of you wedding, especially the cake bake off! My colours were a lot bighter than yours, but were green and pink too. I had roses and calla lilies as my flowers, and they were very natural looking here is a pic:

Callas can be pricey, but my bouquet was only £60. I looked all over for realistic fake ones, but they all looked fake! In Norfolk taverham garden centre in Norwich has a big selection of artificial flowers, but they can be very pricey. Also try the Range, not so pricey.

Table centres, would look great with jugs full of flowers:

    or even in glass jars,

Hope it helps in some way!

    Hi Laura.

We're looking at having a similar thing to you but are starting to wonder jut how much of a headache it's going to be... Have you looked into hiring all the stuff yet? Will caterers lay the tables and things or do you have to do it all yourself? Really want the freedom of creating our own day, but don't know if it's going to ruin the day as I'll have to run around like a headless chicken sorting everything out... Any thoughts?

    Hi Laura

I am a florist in Devon, however, my sister-in-law is a florist in Gloucestershire who should be able to advice you. Please feel free to contact me for her number or web page. She is very popular and even supplies for major events such as Cheltenham Gold Cup in March, and has decorated the Cheltenham Pitt Rooms for numerous weddings.

    HER RATES ARE REALLY GOOD!

Get yourself to a cash and carry for pic and mix - you'd be surprised what else you'll be able to pick up as well!
