Low budget for wedding dress-considering buying online, help appreciated

antheia1984, 26 January, 2011 at 10:11 Posted on Planning 0 8

I'm hoping someone can give any good advice, I went to try on various wedding dressses and love the ballgown/ wide a line type dresses with dropped corset waist, however my "dream dress" is 1700 before alterations!! So I know I can't afford this but I've looked at cheaper dresses and nothing else compares. To be honest, I don't think I can afford more than 700 max. I've looked at high street dresses but nothing looks right on me. I considered byying online and I've heard so many horror stories but I've also heard good ones so now I don't know what to do. I've considered buying from ebay power sellers or lightinthebox.com where I bought a beautiful evening gown but I'm worried that the wedding gownwill appear like a glorified evening dress.

Part of me wants to be realistic and think "it's only one day, doesn't matter about the dress" but the other part of me thinks it's my wedding day and I want to look amazing for me and my future husband.

Any help would be appreciated for online buying, thank you.

Try a preloved dress, you can get your dream dress for a dream price.

THere are many "China" dresses to be had, not least on ebay - but you should do your research on the best ones, there are some really bad ones out there!

I got mine from LandyBridal (also knowns as asapbay on Ebay) and they are fabulous! A few other Hitchers got there's from there too - Natty89 & Grace85 to name a few.

Other Hitchers of days gone by have got there's from Your Bridal Wear and i'm not sure about wedding dresses, but I know a fair few used Ligh In the Box for bridesmaid dresses.

I'd highly recommend Landy. The service was great and the quality of the dress is amazing! My dress was satin and the fabric was heavy with internal boning and corsetry. The seamstress skills are great.

One thing to note about any of these "China" companies, they show you the designer picture rather than their own, however due to copyright there will be some subtle differences in the dress. But then this is the same for high street shops who copy designer dresses or jewellry makers. And of course if you want to add extra sparkle to your dress then you can always get a seamtress in this country to add extra details for you,

    Good luck!

What might be a good compromise for you is Estilo Moda who is a HIB on here. It will be a China dress but at the posh end of the China dress market. I very nearly bought my dress there myself as she seemed lovely & very helpful when I spoke to her (Lisa I think?) on the phone https://estilomoda.webs.com/

I had a bargain wedding dress.....mine was a bridesmaid dress, but I got it in Ivory.

Nobody guessed....it would have been an expensive bridesmaid dress but it was a bargain as a wedding dress!

Ebay all the way!! you can find so many pre-loved bargains on there, always check the sellers feedback and ask them loads of questions before you buy ?

Definitely try eBay. I'm having a mega budget wedding (hopefully under £2k in total) and I have been trying to cut corners with the wedding dress and have ended up wasting nearly £100 on two mediocre dresses. I had a peruse around some of the bridal websites as I want a short, comfortable wedding dress. Nothing too extravagant and I found a gorgeous Monsoon wedding dress which is perfect. Not being one to miss out on a bargain, I googled that particular dress and found a seller on eBay. The dress on Monsoon is £110 but I've just won it on eBay for £77.00!

As soon as it arrives, I'll be doing a flashy with me in it ... finally, a dress I can be proud of! Smiley smile
