Somehow I've promised to make Master I a birthday cake in the shape of a dinosaur. He'd like a deinonycus (sp) but I'm thinking something more generic. Maybe based on a round sponge cut in half & sandwiched resting on the flat edge to make a body? How would you go about it? I have 2 months so I can practice!

I agree about the half round sponge - in fact two sandwiched together (the two halves...) to make it wider and more stable. I found this pic via a quick google that looks pretty do-able (and definitely no need to buy their over-priced kit) http://www.partypieces.co.uk/pages/product/product.asp?prod=5302&ctgry=party+cakes_childrens+party+cakes_cake+kits&cookie%5Ftest=1

Bake a sponge in a pyrex bowl for the body. The rest is made of icing. Doddle.

I can't open the first link- something to do with cookies but I'll look at home. LTP-yours looks good although my attempt would be nothing like that good! Have you got pics of your animal cupcakes, they'd go down a treat too.

That looks like a good method although why anybody would pay for the kit is beyond me!

Are they easy? I'm not bothering to theme as it's a mad science party with a dino birthday cake so a few animals in the mix might be fun.
