M25 commuters?

Nutella, 15 June, 2012 at 10:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Sat in horrible traffic last night, took me 2 hours to get home (should be 1hour) and as I was crawling along it got me thinking about the people in the other cars around me, wondering who they were, what they do, where are they going - could I even be sat right alongside a fellow hitcher!

So do any of you lovely lot travel along the M25 regulally? I go junction 16 to 12 every morning, and then 12 to 16 every evening. Usually very slowly.

*is going for the award for most boring thread of the day*

I used to do a 200 round mile trip every week for work, joining at the QE bridge from A12...turning off just after gatwick...mind you, i had to leave mine at 5am to get to work by 730-8 every wednesday to make sure i didnt get caught in too much m25 traffic!

I use it semi regularly to go and see the folks, join at J25 heading to J21 for the M1 and vice versa on the way back! We usually try to go v early or v late!

I only do it when I have to go and visit anybody really, as I live in Kent. Usually join in at Js 3 or 5.

My friend from Brum hates it so much it prevents her from visiting me very often and always causes a MASSSIVE ranty complaint.

I don't yet but when (if) we finally move I will be doing 26-21a in the mornings, and 21a-26 in the evenings.

Takes about 45 minutes to an hour on a good day in rush hour.

Annoyingly only 20 minutes at any other time of day!

Sounds like we should - I actually used to live down the A40 so probably closer to work - we are thinking of moving even further the wrong way around the M25 so an even longer commute!

    ?

Edited to say I am a black golf normally speeding along on the M25!!!

I used to commute from J1a - 29 and cos of the toll it could take up to an hour, sometimes only 10 mins. Madness!

Nowadays we only use it to visit H's parents which is the same journey. Tend to avoid it at all costs tho!

I sometimes have to drive to Maidenhead from Essex to get to work, but I spend a lot of time on the M25 as mum and dad still live in Berkshire (as do a lot of my friends).

So junction 28 to 15 and then back again.

Its potentially the most boring bit of road ever!

You are right Nutella. I think we discussed this at RFL too - I have friends that think it's unreasonable for me to expect them to come into London because it's a bit hassle. Yet, they don't think it's the same in always asking me to come to them... I do it, as I want to see people but I don't know what the mental block about coming within the M25 is!!

Talking of M25 woe, last night's journey back to London was one of those where you think fate is conspiring to make sure you never reach your destination! J25 of the M25 was closed overnight but there was no warning on the M1. So as we're pootling along (bearing in mind this should be the last 30 minutes of a 4 hour journey) we see the sign and think we could go off at J23 and head for the North Circular, at J24 and head to Enfield on A roads or J26 and come back on ourselves through Walthamstow. I hate the N Circular and J26 is going out of our way, so we head to Enfield via J24. Only to get half way down that road to discover a sign saying that the junction with the A10 (which we need) is closed. *sigh*

Got home eventually and know a bit more about Enfield now Smiley winking

IMHO the toll should be removed for several reasons.

The pollution from several miles of cars each way twice every day during rush hours..

The flow of traffic around London would be improved dramatically and reduce travel time.

Residents in the area cannot cross the Thames without serious delays.

The planning permission for the bridge was granted on the promise that once the cost of the bridge was paid for by the tolls, the tolls would cease(the bridge was paid for years ago and yet the tolls remain)

Ok...there are many other reasons and if this was in France, the blockade tractors would have been out in protest years ago......
