Despite the price, I find the cost worth the outlay.

What really really annoys me is the Dartford Crossing. Planning permission was only granted on the caveat that once the construction cost was recovered through tolls, the crossing would be free and the toll boths would be removed easing congestion and allowing free flowing traffic.

The current government reneged on this 8 years ago when the toll income had paid for the construction and 8 mile queues each way are common every day during rush hours. Opening the crossing up as promised would heavily reduce carbon emmisions, although the revenue gained is far more important to our incumbant government.

BTW. this isn't an anti government comment...it is an anti government decision on this element.?

    Peter I hear your frustration

One thing the Gov't could do in toll situations is to sell drivers a tag system. We have it here called EZ TAG (pron easy for those who say Zed for the American Zee!) It saves so much time as you just drive under a beam of light which reads your tag. Mr P has been looking at the account and can tell within seconds exactly where I am. Not great if I were up to mischief!

No paying - you put an amount on the Tag up front and need to keep an eye on it online.

Doesn't help your current frustrations re: Dartford Tunnel though.

They do a Tag for the M6 Toll - I'd say that most people wouldn't necessarily use it as a regular route though so I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle.

I begrudge paying it but it does save me a lot of time. You don't many wagons on it, so maybe that's the cause of the congestion or are they just on a budget so don't want to pay it?

I imagine the cost to a business if they use it daily would be way too much compared to the time they save.

We never use it, I think its only worth it as a one off. If you need to travel that way every day and back its £50 a week I'd rather have in my pocket.

Most of the time the M6 through Brum is ok. It's only at peak hours on the approach to the M5 junction that makes the cost worthwhile. Always amazes me to see people turning onto it at the weekend.
