MAC make-up help please

Kebab thief, 17 April, 2008 at 18:46 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi all (I'm not really here if my h2b asks, ok?)

After 27 years of being a tomboy I finally gave in to being a bit girly and had a makeover thingy at the MAC desk in John Lewis last week. I only really approached them to ask about a foundation cos I didn't have a clue about colours or anything. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I ended up getting fully painted and bought a shed load of stuff that she recommended (I think they must have seen me coming and rubbed their hands together [:I]). I tried playing with it all earlier on and it just looked rubbish. I used the primer stuff like she told me but the foundation looked really crap over it, kind of blotchy (hard to describe) and it creased in my eyelids and under my eyes. What can I do to make it look better? If it wasn't for the fact that it cost a fortune I'd throw it all away ?

Oh while I'm here (not that I am ?) can anyone recommend a good make-up remover? I had to resort to baby wipes.

I saw an advert today for bareminerals (?) foundation, it's an American thing, all powder based stuff. The advert made it look like the dogs doodahs, anyone ever used it? I think I may have been taken in by the power of advertising but I'm so fed up of looking like shite.

I love MAC! Sell it all to me ?

Are you doing your own make up then? Did you like how they did it for you? If yes why dont you have a MUA visit your house?

My MUA's (x2) are both MAC girls and I cant wait for them to do me and 3 others ?

It really is just practice, practice, practice!!

Are you using a brush to apply your foundation?

(If you do decide to sell it or anything though - give me a shout! ?)

Wasn't planning on doing my own make-up for the wedding just trying to be a bit more girly and wear make-up. That's the joke of it really, I'm just trying to look nice for everyday and I have no clue how.

Will hopefully be getting my make-up done by an MUA on the morning of the wedding - stressing about it atm as I haven't booked anyone and someone on here (sorry, can't remember who, have a shocking memory) was lovely and gave me loads of advice but now I'm stressed cos she said there wouldn't be time to do me, MOB and 4 BMs in the time I had and I really need to get the BMs done too cos the youngest goes about looking like she's been Tango'd, even tho I really can't afford to pay for them all aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh <and breathe>

I'm using a brush to apply the primer and then a brush to apply the foundation, just like she did. I think it must be my skin. Fucking arsey bollocks

Is your skin dry? Sometimes that makes foundation look blotchy? Might be worth putting moisturiser on first?

My skin is greasy until I attempt to put anything on it, then it goes flaky (sp?).

Why is the foundation creasing around my eyes?

Someone please help me before I lose the will to try anymore and resort to wearing a bag on my head for all eternity. Oh God, now I'm blubbing. Someone slap me.

I got told off for not using an eye cream - apparently that should help with not creasing round your eyes? Also just blend it in a bit more!

Don't blub about it - its only make up!!! Just take it all off then start again! Its meant to be fun!

The johnsons make up remover wipes are good and even gets off my waterproof mascara!

Hiya - I advise plenty of exfoliating before (even the night before, apply the primer just using your fingers, then the foundation - sparingly - using a foundation brush (bodyshop brushes are great). I use Mac foundation - if you shake the bottle before you open it, then take the lid off - use just the foundation thats in the lid.... then a little more if you need it.

With regard to a remover, STEP AWAY FROM THE BABY WIPES!

Remember that although they are designed for babies - they are designed to remove urine and faeces and are too harsh for the delicate skin esp around the eye area. I used them for a long time until someone told me, - rubbing my eyes with them has caused fine lines(at 23 its not good!)

I now use Loreal Demaq make up removing cream which melts the make up away and then you wipe it off with a cotton pad. I then use a cleanser to get rid of any greasy residue.

With regard to application of make up, less is more, apply sparingly as you can always ad it bit more, and practise makes perfect!

    Good luck x

    Hello!
It was me who mentioned the timings for your wedding. Did you manage to speak to your venue at all? If not, maybe the BMs could be made up at home and then the rest of you at your venue?
I use MAC makeup all the time so I'd be happy to give you advice, but am just off to bed now as soooooo tired and got a busy wedding day tomorrow. If I get a chance to get on the internet before I go out in the morning, I'll give you some tips and advice.
Don't panic though - MAC is a fantastic makeup range (was it the Bluewater John Lewis you went to?) and you'll be looking flawless in no time!
