I don't use any apparently, I didn't know so had to ask Mr kmw to check lol.

I have had my Mac for 3yrs and have never had a virus *touch wood*

E.T.A Mr kmw wants me to say that there are only 6 known virus' for mac, none work on Mac osx 10.5 and they are none destructive and more of an annoyance. Virus writers don't bother writing them for mac (so says Mr kmw)

VIruses are pretty rare for Macs but they do occasionally pop up. MrH did have Norton for Mac at one point.

So this lack of virus' is another tick in a box for why I should get a mac!

    Thank you all.

Another Mac user with no anti-virus software - we've had Macs now for <counts on fingers> over 5 years. Aside from the virus issues, they are beyootiful!

... and another who has always had Macs and never had a virus.

(Sounds like carte blanche now doesn't it for someone to go and develop one!?)

I can't be the only person who thought 'oooh Mac makeup' quickly followed by 'why do you need virus protection to wear it?'

[shuffles off muttering and kicking self for being so stupid!]

There are viruses out there for the Mac but according to Mr P you have to install them yourself. He has never, in 10 years, de-virused a Mac, he has only put antivirus on to stop them passing them on.

I am another who has had a mac for about 10 years and I never use 'protection' or have had a virus.

On the weekend we are off to buy a netbook purely because we want something that can sit on the coffee table for when we fancy a browse online in the evening (my mac is desktop based) and I am dreading it! Not only because it goes against everything I believe a computer should be (I am such a Mac freak) but because I know I am going to have to worry about all this virus malarky! I just can't justify the cost of a Macbook right now just to browse the web in front of the telly ☹️

What about a refurb Mrs Kitty or is that still out of budget?

I did notice they do Linux ones, but I kind of thought that if it is not going to be a Mac then maybe we should have at least one 'normal' computer in the house as there are still things that I can not access with my mac (TV iplayers being just one of them). In all fairness, I have no idea what Linux is about so I should do a bit of research really. My job for this afternoon perhaps!

I was going to suggest this too. Although, windows really isn't all bad ?. it's not really worth dreading, and viruses aren't a big problem as long as you have some virus software (there are plenty of free ones out there) and keep security patches up to date, which is very easy to do.

(I have a desktop PC and a macbook)
