Machu Picchu

HellsBells42, 11 February, 2014 at 21:41 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 7

Has anyone ever booked a trip to Machu Picchu that didn't involve week long treks? We really want to go for the honeymoon but aren't really sure how to go about it as the common travel agents don't seem to organise trips. Hints and tips please?

    Check this out

There are loads of companies online that organise things like this. Make sure you get quotes and play them off against each other. I got over £2000 knocked off a £7000 honeymoon by doing this, it is effort but is worth the saving.

Hi, it is possible get a tour of the scared valley with entrance to macchu Picchu. The boy and I previously did a 3 week tour of Peru through G adventures. Although it's full on, I would recommend doing the trek as you see some stunning sites along the way especially on day 3 & it makes you appreciate macchu Picchu all the more.

You can get to Macchu Picchu by getting the train to a town nearby called Aguas Calienties then getting the bus up to Macchu Picchu. I did this quite a few years ago on the backpacker train but there are also quite luxury versions!

You can also do a shorter trek that I think lasts two days. This is what my parents did when they went as they weren't up for doing a lot of trekking. The trekking in Peru is amazing though and if you have the time and are reasonably fit then its a really rewarding way to see the country.

I absolutely love Peru and would love to go back here someday but me and my fiancé thought it would be better to both go somewhere we hadn't been before.

I've been - The proper trail is 4 days and a lot of hard work. You'll need to acclimatise to the altitude for as long as possible before starting the trail - Cusco (the closest town) is gorgeous to spend time in though - you can also hang about lake Titicaca for a bit which is also at high altitude (though possibly a day away from Cusco by coach? I don't remember.) Still incredibly hard though (I'd been at altitude for about 6 weeks before hand). You can also get the train up there which is still amazing, the trains have glass roofs - you go the night before, stay in the town (aguas calientes I think it's called) and you get to MP for sunrise and still have to walk for a couple of hours.

To do the proper trail you'll need to book way in advance as places are limited by govt.

I'd also recommend a place in Peru called Huacachina (pronounced wack a cheena) - an oasis in the desert, amazing dune buggying and sand boarding - best fun ever!
