Magazine Subscription as a Christmas gift. Can you delay when it starts?

Minx Sauce, 19 November, 2008 at 10:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

H is so difficult to buy for that for Christmas this year, I've decided to buy him a years subscription to Computer Shopper. It's his fav magazine so I think he'll like it.

Now, I've never subscribed to a magazine before. I don't want it to start until after New Year really as he's bound to buy next months copy himself, and I can't tell him not to as he'll ask why. Can you order the subscription, but delay when it starts... or should I wait until nearer Christmas to reduce the risk of overlapping with a copy he already has?

I realise this isn't a life or death question, but it's been bugging me all night ?.

Thanks in advance,

Minx x

Yes you can. I did that for my mum with one of her crafty card making magazines. However, when you subcribed you got a couple of free gifts and they turned up at mum's house before Christmas and she had no idea why she had them and was going to send them back so I had to tell her why she had got them!

Yes - I certainly have with Ideal Home for MIL - they have to send a card in to start it I think.

Thanks ladies. So if I order it today, what should I expect to arrive exactly? Not the mags themselves, but a card that enablse H to register it when he wants?

It varies from company to company. My H has a subscription to a football mag and to start that he had to send a card off. My mum's on the other hand I just did over the phone and jsut gave a start date I wanted.

Check when the subscription period starts in any case, because a lot of them can take 6 weeks or more to kick in anyway.

Depends on where you get it from. Some places send some sort of voucher which the recipient has to activate, others ask when you want it to start, and yet others say expect your first issue in 6-8 weeks without saying which issue that will be.
